Nobody expects the Hawking Inquisition.

I'm waiting for the headline reporting that Stephen Hawking has become Davros.
I'm waiting for the headline reporting him dead. That will be a sad day. He's done astonishing stuff from that motorized chair of his, and cheated the sickle-bearer for more than half a century now.

Hawking is an interesting case. He is a brilliant guy, but his significance to science is somewhat inflated in the public eye. A bit like Dawkins, he is -nowadays- arguably more important as an inspirational icon of science than as a scientist in the strict sense. Although I think he is more important in gravity physics than Dawkins is in evolutionary biology.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psalm 14, KJV revised edition
But surely he's not more important than Al Gore.
