One of Jehovah's Witnesses needs your help

RE: One of Jehovah's Witnesses needs your help
I hate to break up the doggie pile, but Min was wrong about why Jesus cursed the fig tree.
The fig tree was a biblical symbol of Israel.
That particular tree Jesus spoke to should have borne figs as it was the time for figs.
It was barren and so was Israel.
 A prophetic object lesson.
In Isaiah 53, it said "He" (the Messiah) would be a root out of dry ground and so He was.
The rabbis do not like Isaiah 53 since it gives a graphic picture of the suffering Servant- the Messiah.

Jesus was a tree-hating dick, prof.

Tell me...why couldn't he have made the tree bring forth figs?  Would that have been too hard for the fucker?

You people are amazing in your stupidity.

It's also worth noting that apparently Jesus, Paul, and the rest believed they were living in the end times. Christians have indulged in all manner of dishonest creative re-interpretation to obscure the simple truth that Jesus was wrong. They like to use 2 Peter to that end, but 2 Peter was pretty obviously a piece of PR damage control, written in part to explain away the fact that Jesus' original audience had passed away and yet the old order had not been replaced by the Kingdom.

Errr...
Mark 11:13 Wrote:Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

No, no...you're reading it out of context.  When the fucking bible says "not the season for figs" it means "the season for figs."  Just ask any moron like the prof.  He'll explain it all to you.

    The bibles lack of credibility.

I have heard many charges against the bibles lack of credibility. Such as, it is a collection of fairy tales, it is historically inaccurate, it borrowed from surrounding religious lore, etc.

Please understand that I am agnostic. I do not know what I believe but I am making an absolute stance on what I believe until I hash out some things. So please, give me links, facts, or whatever else you have to help me with this one subject. Being told, "you know that its a bunch of bullshit, right?" is not any of those things. It may be true but I want to see facts. I don't want to hear about specific JW misgivings, just the bible as a whole. Why we can know for certainty that it is absolutely not the word of a divine being. If you say something that I feel deserves a rebuttal, take it as my lifelong indoctrination or whatever else you want but I promise that I am looking at this from a skeptical viewpoint. I want to clear my mind of the doubt that lingers in my head. I would almost say that I am 70 or 80 percent atheist at the moment. So my 20 to 30 percent may argue. Thanks for your help! I look forward to hearing your thoughts
I just wanted to say, good for you.  You are trying your best to look at things objectively. Already you have a lot of good links and quotes form others, and I don't have much to add to that.  I think it is great that you want to decide for yourself though!  Wherever you end up in belief, at least you will be able to honestly say that you didn't just take anyone's word for it, you did your own research.

Thanks Tonus for the correction.
The tree should have had figs since it had leaves.
Anyway, it got cursed because, like Israel it did not produce what it was supposed to.

End times can be counted since Jesus came.
A day with the Lord is as a thousand years and we are at the end of Day 6.

No, no, no. The tree was a symbol of the Star Wars franchise. It had already put forth the best fruit with the original trilogy 'seasons', so JC's cursing the tree reflected the fans' reactions to the crap that Lucas tried to pass off as new and fresh. In your words, it didn't produce what it was supposed to.

That's not how you spell "pathetic".
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

It's been not quite 2000 years - how do you make it the end of Day 6?
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
