What hardware do you have? I haven't had a problem installing on anything in at least a decade. RE: Ubuntu 14.04.2... What do I need to know...

Well... Change my BIOS settings from "EUFI and Legacy" to "Legacy only" (after beating my head bloody over every other setting, hardware configuration) and bang, no more problem.
Posting now from the "try before you buy" version of Fedora. Ugh. Could have sworn my Win7 install was EUFI. Thanks for the help guys. Time to do some actual installs now. I've got four 465Gig drives to fill up with different flavors of Linux. ![]() Kinda wierd booting my computer from my printer. ![]()

There are special instructions if you want to install Ubuntu in UEFI mode FYI:

All installs have to be the same and Windoze is not uefi. These linux installs will not be permanent. I'm currently playing around with several flavors to see which I like best. Eventually I will have Win7 and my fav Linux on ejectable SSDs with the data for each on separate RAID 1 arrays. At that time I may do UEFI since I'll be re-installing Windoze at the same time. Fedora installed. One down, three to go. Thanks again to all for the help.

One last question (at least for now)...
Now that I have Fedora and Win7 playing nice I'm looking at installing other flavors of Linux. Can they share a common /data partition, or do they each need their own? Thanks again.

Well, having experienced the world of Windows 8 (stuck with it at work) and seeing the directions M$ has decided to take and the decisions they've made for (and forced upon) us, I couldn't be more pleased to be learning to use a viable alternative. M$ wants to put a mobile OS on desktop PCs, that's fine. They can do it without my financial contributions. Unless I have a continued need for AutoCAD after Win7 extended support ends, it's the last version of Windows I'll ever run!
