You know what?  I've decided to stop Catholic bashing so much.  My mom still is one and I love her, and she still loves me even knowing I'm an atheist.  So, I need to let it go.

I had a very visceral reaction to that thread of Randy's when he first posted it.  Sooo condescending.

The whole eating the body of Christ thing i never understood.  Why the fuck would you eat him?  Isn't he your lord and savior?  Isn't that kind of cannibalism?  How do Catholics not go "This is kind of fucked up."  Then you have drinking his blood.  Are they all vampires or something?  

If someone asked me to eat someones body, and drink their blood, whatever age I was I'd think "WHAT THE FUCK?"  I don't care what it looks like.

John 6:35-59

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. 53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

And a question for those who think that the disciples just "made the whole thing up"...

Why would Jews, who had laws against eating blood, make up a bunch of stuff like the above if they were eager to get their new, make-believe religion accepted by as many people as possible quickly?

Who says they were trying to appeal to Jews with it?

And if Jesus was truly a Jew, then why would he do something forbidden to Jews, and encourage others to do the same?
