Good question. Why not just be authentic and trust that your essential nature will allow you to find your way? "Being good" has the feel of evaluating experience according to preset, external criteria and then doing your best to act accordingly. I'll let you worry about minding your P's and Q's, Carson. I'm gonna be me.

If Yahweh did exist, the only reason to live a life that he approves of is that you might die suddenly. You may not have time to spend your last minutes apologizing for what you did and getting into heaven. You might be called least in heaven, like jesus said once, but at least you'll be in heaven.

Many theists are good because they don't want to go to hell. Most atheists are good because they want to improve the world and people living in it. Just the idea that you are saying the carrot/stick is necessary to do good things speaks more about you than me.
