Be careful, some people who have acted as if they were their own god tend to have trouble in society. Still, I like your answer, you could do worse.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

They were their own gods in what kind of way? When I say I'm my own god, I'm saying that I'm the thing(or should I say, person) that I most worry about, but I'm smart enough to know what might end up by giving me bad outcomes.

They were the person they most cared about to the exclusion of everything else (i.e. what was best for them was by default best for all). Sounds like you're not that person.

I guess so. I wouldn't do anything that led me to prison. Caring about myself would be enough for me not to do so as well as being sociable with other people and obeying the rules. It's strange that the people you know ended up in prison. They probably don't apply the same meaning I do to the "I'm my own god" phrase.

Politics, ambition, and service.

You need all three to make a difference. Ambition and service without politics can do immense good, but won't result in structural change. Politics without ambition leads to nothing. Politics and ambition without service leads to greed. I think it's easy to determine the other conclusions.
#FeelTheBern? Then get out there and volunteer on progressive campaigns, get appointed to government committees, join your local political party, and consider running for office. In order to push for change, you must participate in the political process.
