It does. Nonconsensual physical violation of a person is 'assault'... when that violation is sexual (and ^that^ violation IS sexual): it's 'sexual assault'.

It's a form of sexual intercourse that (in this case) is against another party's will, and without said party's consent. So yes. It is technically rape.

I feel kind of awkward talking about this now after Rev Rye shared his experience. If people don't take no for an answer then it becomes harassment, or worse. <snip>. What I was really talking about was just flirting among friends, not strangers, and as I said, only if they're game.

I'd rather flirt with strangers... I'm no good at flirting with friends. I tend to make people uncomfortable. Myriad reasons, none the least of which is



But, I generally like hearing positive flirtatiousness from others... If I were aware that a guy is strictly homosexual, then it could hurt my self-esteem (as a woman) for him to tell me he fancies me... but the real trouble for me comes from other women, whom I desire with a truly lesbian passion. It's all well and good... until they say this:

"I really like you/I love you/You're really attractive/I want you/etc.... BUT ______________"

If you say you fancy someone, that's quite a general statement which the other can then ask 'what is it they find attractive about me?'. In the absence of further information people may jump to their own conclusions. And if they're homophobic and have notions about what a gay person finds attractive, then they may actually conclude 'he fancies me because he thinks I'm gay, or effeminate' or whatever and therefore take it as an insult. The problem with all of that basically coming from the statement being general whereas perhaps it wouldn't be a problem with more specific compliments like 'you've got a great six-pack' because that sort of compliment can't be misunderstood. It's just a theory and I wonder if there's any truth in it, hence the thread.

I get that, but I think that comes down to insecurity and ignorance on the part of the offended straight person,
who is assuming that just because a gay person compliments them,
that that MUST mean "omg, do I look gay?"

All they need to do is say "thank you". That's all.
