Meh.

RE: Meh.
Maybe I'm not making any sense. I'm just a bit fascinated by asexual people. I think they are naturally very prescient or even more rational than the rest of us, for some reason. And I value rationality more than pleasure. That's all =)

So my real question might be, here: Are we all going to become asexual in the future?

The reason we get pleasure from sex is for evolutionary purposes: so we would seek to reproduce as much as possible, so that our race might flourish. But I think nature has a way of policing itself, and so, since we are already the predominant race and even face the risk of overpopulation and scarceness of resources, maybe humanity will, in time, get less and less pleasure from sex, seeing how it would become less important...
Get what I mean, now?

Nature might not give a damn about pleasure for pleasure's sake. It's all done with a purpose, I think. And since sex doesn't exactly serve any important purpose other than reproduction, maybe we'll just stop having sex, given enough time. Maybe we'll just develop some kind of immunity to pleasure of a sexual kind, or smth. What do you guys think?

RE: Meh.
They're not more rational, because they don't choose their sexuality anymore than anybody else does and many of them have sex anyway

I don't think we'll become asexual. Sex is still our main means of reproduction, so I don't see that going away

RE: Meh.
What sexuality? Calling asexualism a sexuality is like calling atheism a religion. And mentioning that some asexuals do have sex anyway is like mentioning that some atheists practice religion anyway - it's only because others do it. It's peer pressure. It might be idiotic to have sex and so it's a redundant kind of pressure - I might argue.

I'm not saying they're more rational by choice, I think, retrospectively, they seem to be the more rational beings overall.

Ah, but see, it's only our main means of reproduction, not necessarily the only means, and I, for one, do see it going away entirely, as we evolve technologically and medicinally.
Also, seeing how we face the problems I mentioned in my previous post, I hint at the way we will, gradually, lose interest in sex precisely because we will have to, in order to survive as a species. I'm not saying one day everyone will just stop having sex, without any other means of reproduction, that's silly! I'm rather making guesses about the future, and I think they're good ones, given what we know so far.

That asexual people are overall more rational

Retrospectively, and concerning this, yes, they seem to be more rational by default, even though it's not by their choosing. And sure, I can't say more about their implied rationality taking only this into account, but I admire them nonetheless and like to think they might be more rational overall, just because they were born asexual. I might be wrong though, this is just my opinion, and I know it's out there. I'm not a scientist and didn't research this. I am merely postulating something.
Let me give an analogy so you understand what I mean. It's like atheists are more rational than theists, regarding a belief in god, even those atheists that don't even know about the concept of God.
Maybe I'm misusing the word rational here, for want of a better word, and I'm sorry about that, but I hope you get what I'm driving at, nevertheless.

RE: Meh.
Nope. You're pretty off about this

And they don't have sex because of peer pressure. Some want to have children or make a romantic partner happy

Thanks for being so considerate as to explain why I'm off about it. Very mature.

RE: Meh.
I've got two questions Penguin, if they're not too personal. If they are by all means just ignore them Smile

1) Can I ask what age you began to consider yourself "asexual". I'm not saying you are, but I've only met three people of who all were men in their early twenties/ late teens claim to be asexual. All three of them have since come out as being gay or bisexual.

Are you sure you've got no urges so to speak, or could it simply be you've not met anyone you really like that much? I've always known I liked men (so never asexual) but I really did think I had a sex drive of almost zero before I met my current partner. I'd even dated more than a dozen men and the idea of getting it on with any of them just didn't do it for me. It wasn't that I found the idea of sex unpleasant, but I'd never got that "  Heart WANT! " feeling.

2) Would you say it affects your ability to empathize or feel other emotions? I've never met one but supposedly asexual women were recorded as being rather more apathetic and introverted compared to their heterosexual counterparts, I've no idea if this is a fair assessment or not.
