Really? Do you have a reference for that? While a great deal of his writings bemoan the loss of German spirit and the rise of socialism and democracy in Europe, I can't say I recall any mention of Islam.

I admit to being a Harris fanboy. Tongue
Just offhand, how about his moral egoism, for one, that what's right is what in one's self-interest . . . ? . . . Which led to his master-slave morality, where it is the master's obligation to command and the slave's obligation to obey. I would say that isn't really the ideal, i.e. what we should encourage others to strive towards, regardless if that is the nature of the world, the herd, etc. Or, his Will to Power, and that all action is borne out of a thirst for --- and ought to be done as an exercise of --- greatness and nobility, and never out of pity for the plight of others . . . seemed to me to be a little unsympathetic.

It seems to me like you didn't understand Nietzsche all that well. Oh, well, I guess he's not for everybody, as he said himself. No worries, mate, I'm sure you'll like some other washed-up unrealistic philosopher.

I think he meant Harris. And he is right, to some extent. Both Harris and Dystopia about him, that is. However, the threat is real, and not to be undermined because of liberal paranoia of not offending others at all costs[even at the cost of one's own liberty].

Except that it's ridiculous and baseless. Even more so considering that about 4 to 5 percent of every given European population are muslim. And baseless even more so looking at the actual Europol reports. They are in the public domain for everyone wanting to have an informed opinion to look up.

I'm sure that Harris is good at his field of neuroscience, but that doesn't make him an expert of even informed on any other topic.

You would have to take that up with Harris. I have to agree with him upon hearing what he has to say on the subject. I happen to not agree with you given that you are not even remotely as thorough in your stated opinion on the subject.

And I don't need to be, since - as I said - facts and figures are in the public domain. For everyone wanting to inform themselves.

Yes you do, if you want to change my mind. This is the purpose of a discussion forum. If everyone were to follow your principle we would all just inform ourselves and there wouldn't be any need for any discussion.

I am sorry to say, this type of argument is not valid. You are running away from the problem. Harris went through the process of acquiring information and he wrote books about it so he could inform types like you. You are just referring me to the almighty internet. This is intelectually lazy and gruesome.

What the hell are you even talking about? What about Nietzsche didn't I understand?

Let me guess. Your favorite philosopher is Sam Harris.

My favorite philosopher is Nietzsche. Sam Harris comes pretty close, he's not in the same league however. It's just that I don't know that much philosophy, really. Sorry if I seem biased somehow. Just trying to form an honest opinion on things.

Sam Harris doesn't classify as a philosopher.
