Brotherly Love

Brotherly Love
Bob and Steve are standing on a bridge.

Bob: Are you a Catholic or a protestant?
Steve: Happy to say I’m a protestant.
Bob: Yes, but are you orthodox or reformed?
Steve: Reformed.
Bob: Reformation of 1723 or 1851?
Steve 1723.
Bob: (pushing Steve off the bridge) DIE HERETIC!
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

LOL

If I really hated Christians(which I don't) then I would hope that they would get the theocracy that some right wing Christians seem to desire. Christians do not have a good track record of being fair and tolerant to one another. With modern weapons, they would kill one another off. Luckily, I actually like most Christians even if I think their belief system is silly.

I won't be able to find it, but I've seen a similar item about 2 baptists, and they go over a LENGTHY checklist before they get to the deal breaker.

And, dammit, The One True Faith is THE ONE TRUE FAITH !!

Here is a link to the original, longer version of the joke:

http://www.theguardian.com/stage/2005/se...y.religion

Quote:Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"

Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

"A wise man ... proportions his belief to the evidence."
— David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section X, Part I.

Credit where credit's due.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Emo Phillips, author of the joke and the article Pyrrho linked, is great. Here's a video of him performing the joke:

And now the conclusion...
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Doesn't that last "big" photo look like Geoffrey Rush kissing Walter White?
Have another look.
