When I learned about the life of Harry Houdini I heard about how after his beloved mother died he went to see one of the famous mediums of his time and right away knew these were frauds because they didn't know certain things about his mother that he knew, and it was information that only he would know unless the mediums were not frauds. Then he used his successful magic tricks in a way to debunk all of the mediums around at the time. He was very successful at it and basically became the James Randi of his time.

Harry Houdini Became the James Randi of his Time

Yeah, Houdini was awesome. Apparently, he even went around in disguise when he was debunking these guys. Drunk History did a great bit on him.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Awesome, I didn't know that.
I love those guys that debunk those sickening frauds. How many of them believe their own bullshit, do you think? It's barely an excuse, even if they do. Shut them all down I say, or make them get "for entertainment purposes only" tattooed on their face. I have a friend who visits a medium about a lost relative, and what she gets told really affects her. It makes me sick. Feel free to send me a private message.

Strange how you consider Houdini the "James Randi" of his time, especially when it was James Randi who was inspired by Houdini. Really, it is James Randi who is the Houdini of our time.
If you have a spare hour, watch the documentary "An Honest Liar" (it's on Netflix) which is about Randi's life. Houdini is mentioned numerous times. Amazing stuff.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay." For context, this is the previous verse: "Hi Jesus" -robvalue
Haha oh shit. You busted me! I only read half before I decided to quote it.
