Overpopulation

I can safely say that there is no 'saint' who makes my favorite quote list.

Lol, ok turd. Tongue
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Precisely how I feel Christians ought to be and exactly why most people have problems with Christians. People don't want to be preached "at".

Yep!

I had also brought that one up on another thread here some time ago. I love St Francis of Assisi. So glad to have a pope who tries to emulate him. Heart

I suppose I should say Saint Joan of Arc is also tied in first place on my favorite saints list. Smile

I chose her as my confirmation saint because she also was a big animal lover, and she was just.... badass. No other way to say it. Smile

RE: Overpopulation
My favorite quote:

Quote:
  • When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost... All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
    • H. L. Mencken,  Baltimore Sun (26 July 1920)

Unlike most prophecies, Mencken's actually came true....on Jan. 20, 2001.

Perhaps they should make him a "saint?"

I'm a little bitch today and I deserve to be dressed up like one.

To be fair, parenting does require a lot of sacrifice. The absorption is natural, y'know?

Of course. I'm talking more about how some people act when in public. (Again, I'm not accusing anyone here of doing this). They can show no regard whatsoever for the wellbeing of others, to the point where other people may as well not exist to them. They couldn't care less how the actions of their children impacts anyone else for example.

I was probably exaggerating, it's not loads of people who act this way, only a small minority in fact. The times when it does happen tend to stick out in my memory.

Oh, I get what you're saying there. If your kid is a screaming banshee, don't inflict him upon the unsuspecting public.

I'm perfectly aware of what Fracis said. But that's not how it works usually. Most influencal christians, who also have an interest in making a buck, wouldn't use Francis' writings to wipe their asses with. Also, without knowing if they are devout christians, the recent outrage over the so called Big Game Hunters should give you a sense of this feeling of entitlment.

You can't go wrong with Mencken. A couple of my favorites from him:

"No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby."

"Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats."

Did you see my question about the lice?
