Hey guys! We got a rocket scien.... oh... you're just a scientist called Rocket.... ok... be that way! -.-
Hey, I hope you got some compensation for the 10 lost years.
Also, I saw somewhere that the US jail system is mostly in the hands of private companies who are in it for the buck... the more inmates, the more bucks... if the inmates aren't guilty of anything... tough luck!
Me, I'm from Portugal in Europe... I think prisons here are state owned, so they are crappy and underfunded.
So much so that they had our previous prime-minister as a resident there for 10 months, on no charges!

Interesting journey. Verbose, yes, but articulated well. Never been to Cape G or anywhere in SEMO. Got extended family in STL/STLCO. Good for you for getting reinitiated into life. The prison system seem slacking in repatriation assistance. But you've started a new journey.
I hope the family is being of some help.

The joke is "rocket surgeon" because I work on fast motorcycles, commonly called "crotch rockets", here. It's a pun on the expressions, "it's not rocket science" and "it's not brain surgery", here, which refer to accomplishing uncomplicated tasks.
I am a former scientist, as well, but that's not really part of the pun.
As for compensation, it's necessary to prove that the prosecutors deliberately wrongfully incarcerated someone, when they knew I was innocent or (legal standard) should have known. That's a lot trickier than it sounds, and my attorney has advised that I not talk about it online, to prevent even the remotest chance of something I say here being used to get them out of responsibility for what they did. Even in a best-case scenario, it's a civil trial that must overcome the public belief in the righteousness of the system and those who enforce it. Few people are recompensed for their lost time, unless it's in an egregious case where evidence was deliberately suppressed and/or they lost more than a decade (thus usually getting enough news coverage to make it necessary for The Powers That Be to make a show of paying them back). I have little hope for such an outcome, but I'm still going to pursue it for all it's worth. The judge who facilitated what they did has already lost his judgeship via the state board of oversight, due to other misconduct, so that's something.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Damn dude, that's rough, and quite an interesting story. I can't stand the prison and "justice" system here. It could be worse, but you'd expect it to be better than it is.
I hope you enjoy your time here.

My Gwynnies!
They get on me for my Gwynnie exuberance over here. Kinda why I've been absent this site. Definitely good to see you over here spreading your intelligence and wit. TTAF's loss is AF's gain.

Hi Rocket, I'm new here myself. Nice to meet you.
"I refuse to prove that I exist", says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith, I am nothing."
"But," says man, "the Babel Fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves You exist, and so therefore, by Your own arguments, You don't. QED."
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

I was just sitting in front of an open fire, under the stars and I suddenly thought of you and hoped you'd had a chance to do this since you got out. :-)
