I have a young guy at work who was a model for a time. Every girl that walks in there thinks he's the hottest thing ever, but I do not find him that attractive.

As for the OP: I would lose nothing but the unsought compliment .. and I would gain relief from the awkwardness of acknowledging while declining it. Pretty much a win/win.
