Hindu extremists are nuts. I think we largely don't think about them here because we don't have very many and they don't really cause problems in the west. Ultimately we don't really give a shit unless it affects us. My friends are largely left-wing hippy spiritual types and they all love Hinduism and India, totally blinded by the negative side of the culture and religion. Don't forget it was a hindu extremist who shot Gandi. They also do riots and violence on a scale that we have a hard time comprehending here in the U.S. and it goes totally unreported.

Or there was the time when Hindu extremists stormed and destroyed theaters because they showed a film with a lesbian kiss on it. Shit, I could go on all day. I have no idea why they get such a pass from the west, other than that they keep their violence regulated to India.

Not exactly the peaceful yoga hippies we envision here in the west. I remember a series of hindu riots where they burned some ungodly number of theaters over the depiction of a lesbian kiss. I could go on all day. I have no idea why they get such a pass from the west. Other than maybe they keep their shit in India.

As for the OP, well, worse things could happen. Somehow I'm not terribly upset that billions of cows won't have to live horrendous lives and get slaughtered. It's kind of like if there was a holocaust going on in some country, and some religious group decided to stop the killing for the wrong reason, but stop it nonetheless. I mean, that is exactly what happened here, but. You know.

In India they let them run loose.  Well fed (and in India I'm thinking that is pretty damn rare) a cow will make a huge pile of poo every couple of hours, no matter where it is.

I don't think being a cow in India is all that nice for the cow.

I just learned in a few states the slaughter of cows is completely banned over there. But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, either. I'm not exactly vegan, but I do understand that it's not very ethical to eat animals for their meat, when we have alternatives.
