ROOMBA is your friend. We have a collection of cats (not by choice per se, but rather by concern) and a Lab. I hit the remote for the ROOMBA on the way to work and when I come home, it is parked and charged. Empty the bin and start again the next day.

(PS. For those concerned, all the cats are fixed.)

There's no dog on earth that doesn't shed. Hair can be as short as you please. It's still all over the place.

Short hair is just harder to pick up.  I have two Goldens.

I don't mind cats at all..... but at least one of my dogs always seems to think they are snacks.

Nine times out of ten, when you put a cat and dog together, that don't know each other,
I worry for the dog.

Most dogs are just curious and friendly, and just want to play;
but most cats will freak out if a strange dog approaches them, and go on the defensive.

So I worry about the dog losing an eye to a swipe of claws from the cat.
Sadly, I've seen that happen.

(Of course, if a serious dog decides the cat is prey,
it's game over, obviously).

My Dad grew up in a neighborhood where a local cat used to make sport of teasing and tormenting local dogs
(it was the 50s, people weren't as anal about tying their dogs up)

This cat would lure the dogs on a chase, then escape up its favourite tree,
while the dog bayed around the base of the tree.

Until a husky-dog named "Mickey" moved into the neighborhood.

Mickey could climb trees.

Then there is the occasional very wise and beneficent cat like that of my first wife's family. When I was scarcely twenty I brought my first dog to visit my first wife (when she was a girlfriend). They called the cat MommaCat. When we came to the door my dog, a terrier/spaniel/godknowswhat mutt, was off leash. Down the hall from the front door sat Momma Cat licking her paws and grooming herself. My young dog who weighed maybe twenty pounds was beside herself with excitement. She tore down the hall toward the cat who waited until the very last minute to confront my dog. Momma simply turned to the dog and slapped her about eight times about the face (with claws sheathed) in what seemed like maybe a second, paused and then went back to grooming herself. My dog was majorly confused but also suitably impressed. No further demonstrations were required.

Growing up we had a 20lb back tom (TC) who used to walk the top of the neighbors chain link fence while the two old fat yellow labs just barked and barked. He did it quite often so he must have got some thrill out of it.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.
