RE: Vaccines and Autism
If I was principle at a school where a particular child actually HAD such an extreme allergy that touching a door with peanut dust on it had brought a child to a state of emergency, I'd probably ban peanuts in the school.

But where does it end? Some children are allergic to sunlight. Should all classes be lead-curtained? Some kids are allergic (they say) to chemical cleaners. Should janitors have to carefully wipe down every chair with an organic baby diaper soaked in the tears of unicorns?

At some point, do we not say, "Sucks to be you and your kid, but the rest of us are living our lives. Take your own precautions, or put your kid in a safer environment."? Does the whole universe really have to come to a screeching halt so 0.1% of kids can pretend to live a "normal" life, when actually their parents have created a bubble of abnormality that follows them around. It's not doing them any favors, because when they become adults, that bubble will burst.

Where next? The mall? The zoo? The grocery store? All delivery service? Sound's like the kid needs to glove/mask up when outside the classroom. Suck it up mom. Can't ban peanuts from the entire world!
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

I'll bet she CAN, at least in the US.

She'll let her kid go to some party or something, and he'll end up dead, and then we have to listen to news about mothers marching for "Jodie's Law," and there'll be a fucking memorial to Jodie in every fucking park, and law professors will be fired for saying "Jodie's Law" is unconsitutional, and "peanut butter" will now be a "fully organic edible petroleum product" or something, and. . . and. . . and. . .

Fuck my life, I don't have time for the Jodies' moms of the world. I say feed them all peanut butter in the hospital at birth, and let evolution take its course.

Well, the fact that Wakefield was selecting his subjects in such a way to appear to bolster his hypothesis, that he was carrying out the research while secretly being funded by a lawyer who was trying to prepare a tort case against providers of the MMR vaccine, and generally lied about a) what his research was in the paper itself and b) about the results of his "research" in press conferences designed to fuel the MMR scare, the paper had absolutely no credibility at all.

The only way it could be accurately be resubmitted was by Wakefield submitting a new paper "my previous research was a pack of lies designed to fuel a health scare hoax. I am a shit of a man. I am sorry."

It has happened (like at the tapas place that had "walnut dust" as an ingredient in a couple of their dishes), but most of the time I really just need to pay attention to what I ingest, and ask questions about things I'm not sure of. Anaphylaxis sucks a big one, but it's never happened because I was in the same room with nuts.

Is it evil that my first thought on reading this post was, "we should put you in a room with either Dritch or scoobysnack and observe the results?"

To those who hate vaccines: do you have smallpox?

No?

Thank you, vaccines.
