Vaccines and Autism

RE: Vaccines and Autism
People in general are stupid, especially in relation to science.

"Oh, my son is autistic, it must be your fault"

Humanity has become very well known for placing the blame elsewhere.

Sorry, honey, but your son is autistic due to the combination of genes between you and your husband.

Environmental factors can also be part of it.

Kutcher's a douchebag.

Straw man argument. As pointed out earlier no one has ever credibly claimed that all vaccines cause autism. The claim was limited to the MMR vaccine. Some isolated examples of vaccinations have actually killed, so it's completely understandable why some people would be afraid of them. If the kid wanted creditability he should have printed out the Wakefield paper, put that in the "evidence for" pile (even though the paper was retracted by Lancet), and then print out the 200+ papers criticising it and put it in the "evidence against" pile.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

We don't know what it is, I think that's part of the problem with all the stupid fingerpointing at vaccines. And this is coming from someone who has an autistic nephew.

Common gene variants account for most genetic risk for autism

As Ned Flanders says, "Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things".

Here is some information.  It is a few pages long.

Since that initial finding, 14 studies including millions of children in several countries consistently show no significant difference in autism rates between children who got the MMR vaccine those who didn't.

And this is coming from someone with a lot of knowledge and experience when it comes to autistic people as well. We don't know exactly what causes autism or other autistic spectrum disorders.

I don't think vaccines do, nor was I trying to imply that. But apparently environmental factors during pregnancy can cause it. Hopefully we find out eventually.

Not arguing but curious. Do you consider "environmental" external (factors introduced from outside the body), internal (factors introduced inside the body) or both?
