How would WW111 manifest itself?

RE: How would WW111 manifest itself?
Yeah this is essentially a World War, but it's not countries vs countries. It's countries vs idealogy. This is even more dangerous because how do you eradicate an idealogy?

I read a report that estimated ISIS only has about 35,000 troops. By comparison the Middle East countries have over 4 million armed troops at their disposal, but even they cannot eradicate ISIS on the ground. Why? Because while there are certainly the militant violent outspoken members we see on these threat videos, there are far more supporters of ISIS who are average every day citizens who will just decide one day to come to work or go to a mall with a bomb strapped to themselves. They blend in as average people but they have a particular mindset and do not fear death, that is impossible to prevent and a deadly combination.

This is not a traditional World War that has a sequence of events leading up to it and an ending. This is a perpetual war that honestly may never end.
We are not made happy by what we acquire but by what we appreciate.

When China, Russia, some powers in Europe and the US are all shooting at each other, then it's a world war. Less any one of the 4, and it won't be. If the 4 are all in but on the same side, then it also won't be.

First, this is not a world war. And secondly, bombing raids, if they happen to blow gran to smitherins, are a sure way to multiply the number of enemies. And that happens quite a lot, if you don't look at the propaganda of precision but at other sources.

Well, first, by not calling it a war and treating it as such. Serious experts around the world say, the best way to thin out ISIS is to make sure, they can't expand. They're parasites living off the land they occupy, which is also their main source of income. If that dries out, their followship dries out, since the can no longer be fed, armed and clothed.

By moving in, you risk a lot of civilian casualties, basically making the case for the ideology instead of fighting it.

Can't we just play rock paper scissors for WW111 or something? .-.

These things are best defined after the fact.

An argument could be made that the first World War was really the Second Punic War just going by the scope of it.

The Seven Years War was pretty far-flung, too as a result of European colonialism.

An argument could be made for the Crusades, as well.

WWI was not generally called "World War I" until the Germans tried it again.

Going by what percentage of the world's GDP is involved in the war effort, crusades and seven years war are small time compared to WWI and WWII. Just because the shooting occurs across the globe doesn't mean the globe takes much notice.

If you suddenly find a cannon ball up your ass, you'll notice.

So try the 30 years war on for size.

Nukes got nothing to do with it. Major powers on all continents having at each other is the standard definition of a world war. That's why both world wars only started to be World wars, when the USA were joining the fun.

Not really.
