This kind of shit makes me really sick.

How is this possible? As far as I'm aware the brain controls the autonomic nervous system, which covers everything from the heart to digestion to the endocrine system. It seems to me that it's physically impossible for a fetus to survive to term without a functioning brain.

It rarely happens & I don't think I'd call it a miracle.

The is nothing miraculous about this, it's just sad and pathetic and ultimately tragic.

Awesome, make the baby have a life that is no life at all. That's just fucking great. I knew a women who fostered crack babies. One of them was deaf, dumb, blind and in constant pain from withdrawals and it's life was more than this baby will get, if it survives. At least it was able to experience something, even if it was just pain.

As for the article about the little boy who lived for a year without a brain and people calling it a miracle from god; you're right, it's barfworthy. I can't see how people could believe it was god that did that and still 'love' god. It's freaking ridiculous.

Of course... there are certain things a girl might do so that the thing miscarries... though that would still be pretty fucking painful and perhaps more dangerous than the birth in a hospital Sleepy

I'm aware of the phenomena.

I repeat my question;does the autonomic system require a brain or does it not?

If it does, it is physically impossible to survive without a brain. On post mortem examination, people such as the child described have been found to have a thin layer of brain cells around the edge of the brain pan.

If a brain is not required, would some person please explain in simple language, how the autonomic system functions?

I'm not being a smartarse, I really wan to know.

If the brain stem is intact the heart can beat for a while. The condition is always fatal.

Must be another one of 'god's' little jokes.

@ Pad

The brain is not a single organ, it is composed of several layers that evolution has built up over time.

And it is possible for mutation to cause various bits to be left out, such as these children.
