What a Pastor told me about my thoughts.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Yep, the pastor is an asshole.

What really pisses me off about people like that, and the poisonous views that they promote, is the denigration of life. Christianity is anti-life, and the asshole pastor's letter shows that in stark relief.

For according to the christians, life is just a prelude to the hereafter, and without the hereafter life is meaningless- its a pale reflection of the joys of heaven. Just as love is a pale reflection of divine love. And justice is a pale reflection of divine justice. And knowledge is a pale reflection of divine knowledge.

Fuck that.

Life is important and beautiful now- lets live it to the full. Love is important and beautiful now- and I mean human love between humans, visceral love that means something, love that burns. Justice is important now- lets fight for it against the powers that be. Knowledge is important now- lets seek it out through our science, our greatest intellectual achievement.

And lets see those who denigrate our lived experience for what they are- ignorant, shallow and gravely deluded.
He who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

His response screams of ignorance. You can almost sense his fear. The best thing you can do is leave people like that alone to stay in their little padded cell. When you argue with them or get them to question their faith, you are seen as a threat, so they lash out. Logic and reason is the enemy. Fear is their friend and motivator. Don't let the psychotic bring you down.

He just really seems ignorant. I know a catholic priest who comes and plays poker with my dad every Sunday. If he knew about my atheism, I'm sure he'd be fine with it. This guy should be fired from his job. (Oh and isn't he making God angry by not letting people worship as they choose? Hypocrite.)

It's easy to start criticizing what others have done wrong. But if they're wrong, then why do you have to point it out?

That's hilarious Viper boy, if we are wrong in doing that than you are pointing out to us that we are doing wrong which is pointless according to yourself. If we aren't wrong you have no point at all. Take your pick.

I asked a question. Did you have answer? Or are you going to make assumptions again?

You did the same thing you criticized him for, that was his point.

It's like someone who likes to shout "Don't tell me what to do!" to people.... ironic.

This is the type of response that pastors are taught druing their education... What has always striked me the most... is we point fingers at pastors and leaders in churches and assemblies... But the real poison behind it all?? Bible colleges... Seminaries... these are the places that train the person written about in the original post. They are taught and coached on how to react to many situations... There are classes on ethics, church and business, etc... Anyhow... If it were not for these institutions, the students (Your pastor) would not have such narrow minded views.

As far as what he said, it is quite typical. The modern christian believes that life on earth is a sort of 'passing through' until we settle in heaven for eternity. Why on earth would a creator put us here and just let us run around withut any first hand instruction, and then have it all for not?? If there is a god, then life is the point! Raising my daughters and being a good father is the most important thing on this planet to me... to see them grow and explore life uninhibited... without prejudice or ignorance... So this is meaningless?? Bullshit... Your pastor needs to give his head a shake... If he would actually care about YOU and not just your state of 'salvation' he would get a lot further. They have no idea how to be friends with people, because at the end of the day it's about growing the church. Period. I get that all the time as well... as a former PAOC pastor myself I occasionaly run into poeple who I used to socialize with. THE FIRST THING they always ask is 'are you going to church?'.. wow... Fuck off... You don't have the human decency to at least ask how I'm doing? They are all the same... first hand advice?? Stay away from this guy and his camp. If you are having thoughts of God, you do NOT need someone else to tell you how to experience it, or how to manage it. This is LIFE man!!! LIVE IT TO ITS FULLEST! I always say.... at the end of life if you have no regrets, then you did it wrong. Smile
