lol Yes, it is often pronounced 'dee-dree' or 'dee-dreh' ...
Most people in my social circle and family say ''dee-dreh' or 'dee-drah' ...
Many people offline pronounce it 'dear-drah' and I don't correct them.

Thee was a beautiful German girl at work years ago whose name was Deidre.
I wasn't familiar with the other spelling.
(Unfortunately, her life was short lived)

I'd say it's one of those things where you simplify your name (or your parents do) to make life easier for yourself.
The German couple next door are Harold and Linda, but that's how they want us to refer to them.
His name is actually Harald, and I can't even remember how she spelt her real name.

In that generation (if his name is Harald, he is now probably over 50, more likely around 60, right?) her name could be Gerlinde.
