Well, it was a prime form of transportation when they didn't have air travel.
Although I like how the boat is used differently, for
in Valhalla.

Played a little bit of Blasphemous. Great art style. Not enough off to swing a purchase for the XBOX. I was hoping it would be a light diversion from the more serious titles.

Picked up Corpse Party and Curse of the Dead Gods. I wanted to see if I bought games together, if I wanted to return the game, whether I would have to return all the games in a single order. Apparently not. Anyway, I like Corpse Party so far. The sprites are a little dull, but there's also hand-painted full resolution artwork depicting the students at various times. I'm only through the opening, so the fact that there was a lot of dialogue may not mean too much.

Playing the demo for Resident Evil 4 Remake and restarting Resident Evil Village to compare. The rendering in RE4R seems better than that in Village, and the gameplay is smooth and fluid. I had decided to pass on RE4R because it involves a lot of shooting, and using the right stick to aim is something that I struggle with. But I think I may go ahead and pick it up while it's on sale. And the deluxe version with the Separate Ways DLC is only $4 more, so that seems like a no-brainer.

I bought Star Wars Outlaws Gold Edition for $33. I learn this morning that the base game is coming to Game Pass, which I'm subscribed to until October. But the version I bought includes two DLC that are normally $15 each, and I qualified for 6-month interest-free financing, so it's a bit of a wash. Game Pass just jumped in price this year, so I don't know whether I'll keep subscribing. But my paid copy is mine to play forever. And Amazon hosed me on a $4 gift bag charge for a book I bought as a Christmas present, so they compensated me with a $25 credit on sold and shipped by Amazon stuff. A $25 XBOX gift card fit that bill, so for $4 I have a $25 credit on my Microsoft / XBOX account. Today's the last day of the Christmas sale, so any more sale items need to be grabbed today.

Not playing, but watching people play this game.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I found a fighting game that I think I can get into. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. Arcade action and fan service extraordinaire.

Getting the final tally on which of my recent video game purchases qualified for 6-month interest-free financing. Supposedly, I get that on purchases of $150 or more, but it looks like they tallied all the January 5 purchases as one purchase. I couldn't have done better if I'd planned it. I've got quite a few additional game purchases to cover, but the rest fit comfortably within a single month's discretionary income. Woot.

Now that my spending spree has run its course, it's time for games. I'm having fun fucking around with all the costumes in DOA 5 (I bought a mega-pack of costumes), but I want to spend some time in Clair Obscur so that I'll know whether it's one I would like to add to my permanent collection instead of relying on the free Game Pass license.

Reading about the Atelier games. Yumia appealed to me, but I decided to wait until another time. Ryza and Sophie sound good, but they're not on XBOX yet. Strangely enough, Ryza is unlisted on Steam. Does that foreshadow a new release? I don't know. I played the Yumia demo and it looks gorgeous, but the reviews all panned the combat. I suspect if I want a good combat mechanic, I'll have to play Sophie or Ryza on the PC, or buy a Playstation.
