Christmas came early. Steam is having their turkey day sale. I picked up Flatout: Ultimate Carnage, a gorgeous route addition for my train sim, and Wasteland 3. I own Wasteland 3 and Clancy's The Division but don't have the graphics card to run either. Hoping to correct that in the new year, but I hear the microchip shortage is getting worse.

There aren't any games in the PS store I want to play, so I spent some money in Valhalla.

Playing deck builders. I'd avoided computer versions of card-based games because I'd avoided their real-life counterpart due to my hands. But there was a medium good one that I liked the art and lore in, and it was on sale, so I decided to give it a chance (Roguebook). I found that I really like the gameplay. It's keeping me engaged. And I've invested in two much better deck builders, Monster Train and Slay The Spire. Slay The Spire is regularly featured as the best Roguelike deck builder of the lot, but for now I've got my hands full learning the ropes in Roguebook and Monster Train. Once I've had enough of those two I'll move on to Slay The Spire. While not a deck builder, they're reminiscent of the Roguelike Darkest Dungeon, which I love for its art and narration, but is a difficult and gloomy game.

I probably spent way too much on games during Steam's winter sale, given how many games I already own, but I'm starting to find what kind of games really do it for me. I've recently invested in card battlers, tower defense games, and platformers / Metroidvania games. I haven't spent enough time playing the tower defense games to know if they're "the real deal" for me, but they're promising. Fast action isn't as essential in them, which fits my casual style well. But the platformers are a surprise. I had avoided platformers because I thought they would be difficult and frustrating due to my lack of fingers. But I concentrated on games with full controller support and I'm finding that I really like the gameplay. I bought the first Trine game yesterday, and I can't stop playing it. The mechanics and gameplay are awesome, and the graphics are totally gorgeous!
