I really like Long Island. It has the benefits of being an island with the beach 15 - 20 minutes away while still having the fast-paced atmosphere (and assholes) of NYC. It's a win/win.
Welcome!

I spent some time at Stony Brook for uni. Didn't feel much of the fast-paced atmosphere you mention, and that's an understatement, but that's probably the difference between Nassau and Suffolk Big Grin

I was thinking in comparison to other islands in the world. "Island time" is a very real thing in some places. Here meanwhile I'll get honked at immediately after the light turns green for fuck's sake.

Some people would holler at me angrily simply for riding a bike, I guess that counts?
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I suppose I felt lied to and cheated by religion? Whatever the reason, I was a major dickhole about it. After a little over a year, I realized that religion just didn't concern me anymore. It had no effect on my life. I had no reason to bash it or follow it. So now I'm more of an "apathetist" if you will, but I was browsing the forums and this seemed like a fun place to read, discuss, debate...so I registered.

Welcome!

Do you actually think that religion does not have an effect on your life?!

And you live on planet Earth?

You must have access to a drastically different news service than I do. One that does not report on: Islamic terrorism, Planned Parenthood shootings, public schools teaching pseudoscience, just for a start.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Hey there, welcome Smile

Apatheist is a pretty good label for me too.

I only care about religion when I see harm going on.

Maybe I should have specified that it doesn't have a personal, direct effect on my life.
