I'd like to research into my Maltese side more, I feel such a strong, almost spiritual tbh, connection to the islands and The Mediterranean in general. I don't know all that much about my family history there though.

Just the odd story, typically from the wartime. I'm aware my great-grandfather was somewhat wealthy, but pissed it all away gambling and treated my great-grandmother like a human punch-bag. They had 19 children, of which my grandfather was the youngest. One of the oldest died alongside a local priest during the war, they were trying to save a baby from a collapsing building. Sounds like something stereotypical you see in movies, but it actually happened.

I hope I can find something more positive further back

My father once did a family tree, based on what he remembered and what documents were available to him.

He was able to trace our family back to the early 19th century. Only his own side. My mother and maternal grandmother didn't have any documents at all or didn't provide their knowledge. So I know a lot more of where my father came from than the roots of my mother. My maternal grandfather and grandmother are blanks, as far as family history is concerned. Grandfather came from a very small village where his parents ran the general store. Large family, some of them proudly wearing uniforms of the imperial army. I have photographs without having any other knowledge than that most of them ended up at Auschwitz.

Maternal grandmother came from a German family in what's now Bohemia. Again, photographs, but next to no knowledge. One very grim looking gentleman wears a uniform and I seem to remember that he was pointed out to have been a judge.

On my fathers side, most came from Hungary. Jewish traders, rural gentry. One having been a surgeon/veterinarian (nice combination) in the early 19th century. He sticks out because one of my aunts actually had a painting of him.

What I find remarkable though is, that both of my christian grandmothers married jewish men in the early 20th century.

Son of the Revolution, thoroughly American...and lik most americans it would be easier to describe the places my family -doesn't- come from.  Multiple waves of immigrants who mingled with the natives and the chattel alike.  I personally added poland and scandinavia to the tree with my marriages and children...just in case we were missing those pieces...which I'm almost certain we weren't to begin with.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
