I like this question.
Its answer can show just how flawed religion is. But the proponents of the religion will utterly fail to understand that point, because they are somehow convinced that they possess the truth brought to them by their god in person.

Truth is an accurate description of reality.
A statement is true when it correlates accurately with reality, either pertaining to events or to objects.

The problem arises when you bring forth statements and claim them to be true, but you have no real way of verifying them.
The party that is perceiving your statements has no way of verifying them. This other party can, however, understand that you yourself have no way of verifying them and should thus be put in a state of non-belief towards your statements.
If you have an alleged description of reality which is utterly unverifiable, odds are that you made it up, dreamed it up, hallucinated it, or were deceived into perceiving it.

(now do tell me how religions aren't guilty of this... can't wait...)

Thanks for everyone's replies. I think all on here consider themselves truth seekers, as I do, which is partly why I joined the forum for discussion. I would say perception of reality is a sum of ones experiences, which is why we all have a different perspective, and come to multiple conclusions. I myself have come to believe there is a god, and spiritual realm based on my research, but I'm not here to judge anyone, just have dialog with fellow free thinkers.

I've researched a lot of psycological warfare, psyops, perception management techniques to control people and drive them through propaganda to reach the desired conclusions. So I understand how the masses can be manipulated for various reasons. Even all the propaganda directed at us here in the US, for us to go along with the government and powerful people and lobbies to keep us in line. There is a hell of a lot information out there, but I think all of you on this board desire information, rather than just accept what a religious leader or book tells us what to believe. I look forward to future civil discussions. Like I said I'm interested in learning all perspectives of people to become more aware of everything so I can form a conclusion based on as much information as possible. I think it's important to receive the full spectrum, to be well rounded, as opposed to narrow minded and have a confirmation bias.

Hey, yes I've looked into MK-ULTRA and MK-NAOMI, along with project monarch, and a lot of other psych warfare techniques. We should start a thread on that... I really don't want to derail my introduction thread, but I'll reply.

I don't know how much you have been exposed to, but Cathy O'Brien would be a place to start with her book describing her experiences in Trance Formation of America. Don't know if you have seen the subliminal messages in the National Anthem song video that they used to play on TV stations before ending programming each night. This was way before I was born. There's plenty of info to find, and it would be best for another thread topic.
