Hello again AF! Throughout the school year, as many in my school know, I get a lot of sh*t for being an atheist. Any ideas for how to counter someone who says, "OMG WAIT REALLY LIKE THOSE KIND OF PEOPLE EXIST WTF?!?"

That's not good advice at all. I hope you're not serious.


@OP, 

I used to be an atheist while in middle school and right through high school as well. If anything, my atheism made some of my friends inquire into their own belief systems and they became more rational and skeptical for it.

Just ignore them or cleverly rebut them wherever necessary. Your frankness and openness might encourage someone else to do the same, if not maybe even change someone's mind on the subject. Also, it might be well advised to have the conviction of your beliefs on the matter(or non-beliefs, as the case may be). If they feel like you're preemptively ashamed or that you feel like an outcast for it, they might have more reason to treat you precisely as you would expect them to. 

Just keep in mind who's rational in this whole debate and don't be deterred by the statistical majority side of it.

Politeness is of the table and it looks like person saying this isn't exactly brilliant so riposte must be on level possible to comprehend, which exclude talking about Marx and his opiate for the masses for example.

I guess simply asking if someone have problem with that will be enough and if not best ripostes came to mind on spur of the moment.

I think it's a fine line.  I agree with the "keep your mouth shut" part.  There are all sorts of ways to avoid getting drawn into conversations about religion.  But if you're really pushed, then state the truth simply.  I think most of us can tell the difference between somebody who is just curious, and wants to understand, vs. somebody who wants to try to change your mind.  Whatever you do, don't ridicule their beliefs.  It won't go over well.

At least you have a filter up to distinguish between good and bad friends.

Good friends won't give you shit for being an atheists. Just stay confident and give them a reasonable response, if they can't be reasoned with then they are obviously idiots that are not worth your time.
