The new Doom?
|
I am not into the shoot-anything-that-moves genre and maybe that is the the reason but the gameplay video didn't impress me in the least.

It looks to me like it will be 1000 times better than Doom 3, but 80 billion times worse than Doom 2.
Personally if I spent money on a game it would b e Age of Empires 2: HD Edition + the two latest expansion packs, The Forgotten and African Kingdoms. Too busy with other stuff to play games though, so that's why I haven't bought it. My impression, also; Doom 3 was in the horror, survival mode, but the new one appears to be just blood & gore. I, for one, am going to wait until it comes out before buying.
It will be more like the original Doom, it will be fast paced. But will it be anywhere near as good as the classic? Not a chance.
But I'm massively biased in favor of the classics though, I'll admit that much.
Oh, you liked Doom 3? That was the most disappointing game of all time for me. Forget I said anything, hehe.
My favorite games aren't all violence and gore either. But DooM is meant to be like that, that's the way I see it. And slow-paced horror FPSes like DooM 3 bore the crap out of me. If I want something smart I'll play an RTS or an RPG (my favorite two genres, preferable to FPS by far), if I want something mindless I'll play FPS. There's nothing I hate more than all these games trying to be like movies. I agree with Id software that a game should be like a porno--the story should be secondary. I love intellligent games but storylines are not important to me at all. If I want intelligence I want strategy and tactics. I'm here to play not to watch the graphics and cutscenes like it's a goddamned movie. Only games where the story is extremely important to me is the classic point and click adventure games like Monkey Island, Simon the Sorceror, Day of the Tentacle, Broken Sword, etc. Oh and stories are also fine in hilarious games--like South Park Stick of Truth. That game is the one game that's like a game and a movie in one that I truly love. I prefer the movie of that game than the actual South Park movie--because it's far newer and South Park has gotten so much funnier since the original movie. If you haven't played Stick of Truth, here's all the cutscenes put together in full movie size, it's fucking amazing if you love South Park: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrU_tt4R3xY
The stick of truth is the best game to come out in a long time, I loved it. I wish they'd make more of those.
But that aside, I think doom should be more like doom2, which didn't have much of a story but just enough to tie things and was a really creepy horror FPS. Doom 3, I felt, was pointless. And doom 4 seems like it is trying to merge with Serious Sam. Quote:To know yet to think that one does not know is best; Not to know yet to think that one knows will lead to difficulty. I loved it! Because, it scared the "hell" out of me. In fact, I could only play it with an "allied mod", which allowed me to have a bot at my side at all times, if I wished. Without that, I, psychologically, could not play it.
Doom3... was... scary??
Please never ever play fatal frame Quote:To know yet to think that one does not know is best; Not to know yet to think that one knows will lead to difficulty. Join me on atheistforums Slack (pester tibs via pm if you need invite)
No game or movie has ever scared me.
Real life scares me. I get afraid of actual danger in life. Games and movies can make me "jump" if I don't expect it, but so can the cutest least scary person in the world saying "boo" behind me when I don't expect it. That isn't fear, that's being startled... and I don't know why I'd want to experience that. I play games to have fun, that is all. |
