What the fuck? Urgh.
It's all probably been said already, but...
The world is populated mostly by adults who believe in fairy tales about gods, and take it seriously enough to have it affect their decisions, including how they treat people who don't share their delusions. Atheists, in many countries, are an oppressed minority. Their life is sometimes even in danger.
None of this applies (at least on the same scale) to those other beliefs which are just as stupid. So while sceptics share disbelief in all those dumb concepts too, no one is using fairy-based dogma to fuck up their lives. Identifying also as a sceptic is usually enough to make this disbelief of baseless concepts clear.
So we support each other, support those who identity as atheist, so that they can be themselves here at least. For me, my life isn't affected day to day by being an atheist. I'm lucky in that regard. But I'm here for those less fortunate, as well as to talk to non-deluded people.

I'll point out again that every sceptic is usually an atheist, but not every atheist is a sceptic.
It so happens most of us atheists here are sceptics. But there are atheists who believe in all kinds of other ridiculous stuff. They've fallen into mental traps, just different ones. Or perhaps they need the comfort from it. Who can say.
So any particular atheist could have come to their position in any number of ways.
But for sceptics, it's simple. So simple. We don't belief in unsubstantiated claims. "God" is one of those claims, if you can even call it a claim. I know "God" is very much real to a lot of people. There are plenty of good psychological explanations for that, not least of which are indoctrination and immersion in a culture of mythology.

The root again of the issue. This seems why Atheists generally come together? If there was no religion, again, people would not care about the issue of God existing.
And it seems the problem lies that you are not satisfied with any of the systems of submitting to God out there or to the divine, that none of the claimants to the truth satisfy you.
That is why you see there is a need to oppose religion all together. And what easier way to do that but to oppose the central figure which they rely upon, God?
I'm not saying this why you disbelieve in God, but at the end, why you argue against believing in God is to do with the fact people submit to representatives and people claiming authority on his behalf?
Oh, boy, I just skimmed through the rest of this thread.
Still not clear on what insight you're hoping to glean regarding the mindset of the "Atheists" but I'll try to answer you question, convoluted as it is.
I only speak for myself, btw.
I do not believe in gods. This is not as reaction or response to clergy, policy-makers, or any other sort authoritative, establishment-type figures claims; I simply don't believe magic, and I happen to regard claims God claims as such. Nor, do I feel the need to oppose religion altogether. The majority of the time, I find it difficult to summon any interest in people's religious beliefs, one way or the other.
I don't care if people choose to submit the to the authority of a non-existent God's representative; Just don't expect that everyone else should be forced to the tow the line.
Sadly, the "live and let live" mindset is seriously lacking in the religious community. People get sick of that shit; Non-believers and believers like.
So, they may wind up on a forum such as this.

Well said.
If (some) theists kept their beliefs to themselves and didn't try to ram them down others' throats like a warty misshapen nonexistent penis, things would be fine and dandy.
Shoving that penis into the ear of the young is what gets me the most. It can produce adults who are partially or totally detached from reality, and unable to even see there is a problem. They are vulnerable and trusting. They deserve better. They deserve to be given all the information so they can decide for themselves, not to have religious beliefs presented as fact.
If whatever brand of garbage you're selling is "true", it shouldn't need jamming into minds that can't think properly yet. It should become readily apparent to them without this. Or does God only reveal himself to people programmed from a young age? Like some Peter Pan Narnia shit or something?

So who is with me, Aleprechaunsforums.com?
And don't forget Pixies. We need Apixiesforums.com, because it's so obvious to us we have no proof of their existence, that we need to support one another for it!
Right?
ahobbitsforums.com atrollsforums.com where is our peer support groups for what obviously we have no reason to believe in?
Are leprechaun believers becoming a problem? this is here because theists tend to be a problem. (see the gap in New York and the devastation in most of the middle east for examples).

Mystic has been a member here for ages.
How is he not getting all this yet?
We don't need support because we don't believe in stuff. We need support from the crap we get from people who do believe in it. We wouldn't even need the word if everyone stopped believing in silly stories.
