I'm not saying that I don't believe that what I originally stated wasn't something they wanted, I just couldn't google the statement to back my claim up. I'm reasonably certain I've heard something to that effect at some point in time, but I'm not sure if I had heard it somewhere or simply made it up without realizing it. I'm also not certain if it's a tea party position or something a prominant republican had stated. I know the tea party and the GOP are pretty much the same party these days, but there are still some republicans with sanity and self-respect these days.
I've heard of even more ludicrous things that they'd want to repeal - including but not limited to:

medicare, medicaid, social security, the 17th amendment (to be replaced, apparently), the environmental protection agency, the department of education, and there were several more I'm certain I'm forgetting. The various labor laws may be in there somewhere, but those above I caught on a recent Rachel Maddow episode.

I do regular her and Olberman's shows as well as Jon and Steven's programs on Comedy Central.

So either demand that illegal immigrants get the same wage, or eliminate labour laws and minimum wage and let the workers compete for the jobs.

It would stop the "They took our jobs" argument. No one took your jobs, they were just willing to do the work for less money than you did.
It certainly would, but it would make the poor in this country much, much poorer. They might compete, certainly, but it would be for table scraps and jobs would still be fleeing this country for the developing nations that exert far less control over business practices.
The choice is almost between carnagie-style business control, where a CEO can lord over his or her employees as a british lord over serfs or having the company flee to another country where the employers can force employees to work 18 hour days, 7 days a week, on pennies on the hour in company-owned towns.
It's slavery far worse than any imagined communist america by a tea-bagger because it's a far more real reality that can easily come to pass under the flag of returning freedom to citizens of America.

Quote:Well that might lead to all kinds of corporate abuse, and corporations already abuse their employees as it is, without labour laws would be horrible and might lead to unsustainable environments for families
Like I said above, it'll just lead to the kind of slavery that borne our American Unions, which did bring about many of the labor laws we enjoy today.
Nowadays, they certainly do get away with whatever they can, but now it just seems to come to life through much more complicated and ethereal ponzie schemes, skirting safety and environmental regulations, and things of that nature.

I think we're both partly wrong. If this were a black republican president, I think we'd see the GOP pounding in the point that they're the ones who are the more progressive party in terms of black-white race relations and they'd be doing everything in their power to hush any racist tones, which might still flare up in the news. The talkies on MSNBC might point out their hypocracy and FOX would point out the racism in people who would dare complain about the Prez's right-wing policies. (Just like they labelled anyone who spoke against bush's war on Iraq as treasonous and unpatrioitc).

If the tea party flared up in this scenario, I guarentee that FOX would attempt to label them as a liberal movement and point out thier blatent racism.

In any case, it's not just that the President is black (actually half-black and half-white, but still), it's that he's both a democrat and black and we're currently seeing the reprocussions of the tizzy they've been having for the past year and a half because of that.

I would have loved to see a female black democrat president so we could see the republican's blatent misogyny as well. Especially on the FOX propoganda network.

I would have rather they let the law stand and force a secession.

That'd only be true if his IQ were over 100 and he had thoughts that didn't involve GOP/Tea Party talking points. After all, isn't that how the GOP apparently became progressive enough to put Sarah Palin as their spokeslady both during and after the '08 election? I'm sure they could do that for someone with non-white skin as well. Like Micheal Steele and a number of republican govenors.

Sure...that's why Michael Steele didn't get elected to chairman of the Republican Party...oh wait.

Have you paid attention at all to Steele's term?

It was a goofy attempt by the GOP to show that there weren't a bunch of racist shitballs..... completely forgetting that the rank and file of their party ARE racist shitballs.

I have to agree with minimalist in this case.

Steele was elected shortly after Obama's win to the Presidency. Back then, Steele (and Palin) were the party heroes that they had to talk about on every FOX news broadcast regardless of what either of them actually say or do.
Nowadays, Palin is only popular with the anti-intellectuals and anarchists and not one republican I know of bothers with Steele anymore. Partly because he dares speak against the Jesus Christ of the holy republican/conservative trinity (with Reagan as god and FOX news as the holy ghost) of Rush Limbaugh and have his own independant thoughts about the direction of the party as a whole.

I mean, it just smells of "hey look, we're seriously not racist - we can vote the dark-skinned folk to office too!" And now that he's there, they don't even pay attention to him at all. Nowadays, it's sister Sarah and the republican grease monkeys of the house and senate.

Especially that dumbass Boenher.

RE: Judge Strikes Down
In 2000 I was living in New York when Hillary Clinton decided to run for the Senate. Her presumed opponent, Rudy Giuliani got cold feet and dropped out of the race which left the Republicans scrambling to find a replacement. They came up with a congressman from NYs 2d district, Rick Lazio. The 2d was as reliable a republican district as you could find. The only time a Democrat won was in the aftermath of Watergate.

Anyway, this left the GOP with an open seat and they decided to get cute. The recruited some black woman to run on the Republican line for Congress secure in the knowledge that republicans would do what they were told, as usual.

She got trounced and a solidly GOP district went to the Dems.
