Regarding Mary Shelley and having created through fiction a doctor that used electricity to return the dead to life and the eventual discovery of using electricity to restart one's heart after it had stopped beating. Amazing connection through the span of time.

This is done horribly wrong in almost all TV and movies. Its purpose is to stop the heart when it undergoes uncontrolled movement, in the hopes that it will restart itself. /pet peeve

Alex, that shit drives me nuts! Not only that, they often depict the hero using a low-voltage source like a car battery, lol! And what I really hate is that when the hero's initial efforts are not successful, someone will try to stop him/her from continuing, insisting that it's over. You should NEVER do this! What is to be gained by giving up? What is there to lose in continuing to try? In both cases, NOTHING!
Okay, rant over. I'll go back to my beer now.

Yes, it seems that most family members or friends in movies are sent directly by Satan, to make sure everyone helping gives up hope and lets people die. I loathe lazy screenwriters.
