Have not seen Event Horizon, but The Abyss is a film that I really enjoy.

The Abyss is another of my favorite sci-fi flicks.

People hate on The Abyss rather often, I also loved it. Event Horizon is definitely scary, but I didn't really enjoy it so much - but I can't put my finger on it why.

Been a while since I've seen Sphere. Not a bad movie.

Yes, it's turned out pretty good. The novel is better, though.

Does anyone remember Disney's "The Black Hole", surfing heavy-handedly in the wake of Star Wars?

I have a nostalgic connetion to it because we're the same age, and it has a good German (*) villain Smile

Austrian, but aren't the best German villains Austrians?

Watched "EH" last week.

"The Abyss" should be watched in the director's cut, IMNSHO. It shows the aliens' more effectively. Mile high tidal wave trying to decide whether to smash the puny humans or not.

Probably not a Top 10, but Dark Star is a fun romp.

And while it's not a prequel to Alien, there are connections. Even a scene in Aliens is a remake of a scene in Dark Star.

While some criticize Dark Star for it's low production values, considering a watchable sci-fi movie was made for $60,000 (IIRC), its still impressive IMO.

Dark Star is also acknowledged as one of several inspirations for Red Dwarf.
