RE: Why Btonze Age?
The French had cuirassiers right up to WWI. (And ceremonially after, of course.)

Hey, Polish cavalry attacked the German in 1939.

It was ineffective.

But in WWI you still had that old Imperial age bullshit going on.  It took trench warfare to stomp that out of humanity.

Actually, all the nations had their more or less colorful cavalery units at the start of WWI. It was the last piece clicking into place to show them they're outdated. Not much good against machine guns, after all.

The Germans had cavalry too in WWII. But the horses no longer served as chargers. They only served as means of transportion for the soldiers to dismount when action started. But they were still called cavalry. As far as I know, even the US forces found it hard to let go of the tradition. Weren't or aren't there still units being called cavalry, although there are no longer horses but copters involved?

The original meaning of Dragoon regiments.

And yes.  The Air Cav still exists.

The cavalry did score local victories, but not enough to change the course of the battle.

And they didn't attack the panzers, that's just a Polish joke that refuses to die.

I seem to recall that a cavalry unit came across a German infantry unit and attacked them but were quickly driven off when a couple of machine gun carriers ( Pz I's?) came up.  I'm sure the Germans had armored cars in 1939.  Not so sure if they were using half-tracks by then for the purpose.

The PZ 1 was nothing but an armored machine gun carrier. Armed with two MG 34. Not much stronger than the Sd.Kfz. 231.

Halftrucks, such as the Hanomag were mainly used to dispatch troops quickly. Also armed with an MG 34, later with an MG 42. They evolved during the war, of course, featuring all kinds of weaponry, up to grenade and missile launchers.

The Pz I's were meant to provide the panzertruppen with experience in the use of tanks while the II's and III's were coming online. After the IV's arrived the I's were relegated to lesser roles, some being assigned to occupation forces for policing use.
