Active/Passive Atheist?

I am definitely an active atheist. When I have an opportunity to challenge religion, and when it is a good thing to do, because someone is harming himself or someone else with it, I do seize it. I don't do this in a childish way, mocking them, but I like to just talk to that person, ask questions, and encourage that person to be more curious about the world. Seldom do I actively mock a person's religion in front of him, I only do this when a religious person crosses my personal boundaries, e.g. when they evangelize to me, without showing any respect. Even then I like to end the conversation in a friendlier way.

So, when I challenge religion, I do it with a person. I realize that a person's religion is a very sensitive part of someone and I don't want to hurt people when it is not needed. Close friends who are christian will never have problems with me challenging their religion unasked, I only do this when they have the need to talk about it, and then my main priority is to respect them, not to convince them.

I'm anti-religion in a general sense, but apathetic in practice. I hate it when theists proselytize, so I see no reason to do the same to them. I'm not much of a team player, hate working in groups, and am skeptical of causes.

Thanks for your comments. This R. Dawkins speech pretty much sums up my brand of atheism. (Apparently some people dislike RD, or some of the things he's said/done. All I'm saying is: I agree what what he says in this speech.)
BTW, he uses the term "militant atheism." If you look up "militant," there is a sense in which it means, essentially, "activist." But I prefer saying "active atheism." I think RD used "militant" in this TED Talk, partly because speakers in that forum are expected to be entertaining--he did get a laugh with it. (And for the shock value.)

It depends on a lot of things. I don't think I can be strictly one or the other. At the in laws house where they are Catholic? I keep my damn mouth shut. At work? I will answer and acknowledge I am atheist but I won't say anything negative about religion. Online or with people I don't care if I offend all hell breaks loose.

Several months ago I joined a local atheist group. I'd never joined such a group before and admit thinking that the other members would be like me, in the sense that they decided they were atheists because they thought believing in religion was foolish and dangerous and that they thought one owed it to oneself and society to advocate for atheism and against religion. The only question I had was, just how aggressive might they be in such a role.
So, I was astonished to find that several (about half?), of the 8 or 10 who showed up that evening stated they were not at all 'activist' in their atheism; that they simply didn't believe in god. And yes, some even said they thought to argue against faith was being inconsiderate of others' rights to believe.
I assume many in the current forum have heard of the four famous new atheists, (sometimes called the "four horsemen of the non apocalypse"); Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens (RIP), Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett. Anyhow, if you read their books; to me, it becomes undeniable that belief in god is not just foolish, but dangerous and a tremendous burden on humanity and the world. (Even without reading these guys, simple adult reflection on the question should result in the same conclusion.) Once this realization is gained, it seems unconscionable to me to have a passive attitude about it: 'I don't believe in god, but I don't care if others do.' It seems to me that if one has that attitude then you are either not being honest with yourself, or you don't care about the damage that religion does. And I ask myself, Why would I want to associate with such a person?
