Question?

RE: Question?
So where's Pete?
I'm here like a little chihuahua barking ferociously at this topic. I like it. I might chill here.

If you discovered personally acceptable truth (whatever that may be for you) that the Christian God revealed in the bible was authentic, would you choose to serve and worship him?  If yes, why?  If no, feel free to elaborate as to why as well.

I observe there are many former Christians and very knowledgable people here on the content of the bible, I look forward to hearing your responses.

Again, I really do hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

I'm gonna take a different slant. Maybe I need you to define "acceptable truth".

I do find that there are "acceptable truth"s in the bible. Examples, don't lie, don't kill, don't steal, be excellent to each other (sorry-Bill and Ted)..................

But these are truths "revealed" (more accurately is "written about") by man, not a god. All gods are a fantasy created by man. The bible is the fantasy story written by man about a particular god. I not going to worship a fantasy.

I find acceptable truths in the Silmarillion but I'm not going to worship Eru Ilúvatar.

RE: Question?
What's in it for me? I like myself. a lot. I'm always looking out for my own best interest.

As a kid, I always thought hell was supposed to be the most painful, smelliest, nauseating and otherwise uncomfy experience. I'm one who is a wimp around smakes, bees, jellies, and excrement. And I hate food poisoning. If hell was all of that, I'd be moving to Texas and personally attending services at Joel O'Steen's church.

But in adulthood, I have heard all different ideas of what hell is. Sometimes just a displacement from God that I apparently wouldn't even notice. Sounds A-OK to me!

Yes, God and his son Jesus are jerks. I'm happy to know they don't exist.

RE: Question?
Fraid not bud.  Existence isn't really the issue.  Plenty of things exist that I don't worship, your god would just be another one of those things.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

RE: Question?
If god was real I would worship him.
No sense in being on the losing team.
It'd take a lot to convince me though.
Something like a special set of gloves, a special hammer and a list of all the people who are demons and not even real people after all.
I feel quite sure that if god was real he'd want me to do his special jobs.

RE: Question?
No amount of certainty would ever make me worship a God of the Christian bible. It would be pointless for me to pretend I didn't find him repulsive because he would know I was lying.

RE: Question?
I'm still here! Got a little busy at work tonight. Cannot help but notice some are getting hung up dissecting my question about what is truth and such. I attempted to remove all ambiguity and pose the question flatly. I often see reasoning to the effect that many dismiss Christianity due to lack of evidence. I'm questioning who would follow and worship Christ if they knew Christianity and what it purports to be true.

Someone who has never read the bible in its entirety and/or is morally lacking I presume

RE: Question?
Jesus, how the fuck could the god of the bible be proven ??

Proving 3 = turquoise would be easier.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
