Trying to ask this as objectively as possible, but...

As I understand it, the Brexit movement is largely based on the xenophobic right wing rhetoric. People don't want Muslims in the country. But some members who opposed Brexit also seem to talk badly about Islam. Majority of Muslims hold views that Westerners perceive as backwards, and even though very few overall are likely to carry out terrorist attacks, they are quite likely to support them. Only 30% of British Muslims say they would contact the authorities if they knew of a jihadist in the country. Over half of British Muslims think homosexuality should be outlawed and nearly a third support instituting Sharia law in the UK.

So if an ethnic group with these sorts of beliefs is flooding the country, what is the UK to do? Could they have reached an immigration compromise with the EU instead of leaving altogether?

The double negative sorta throws me off there.

What, you mean irregardless of the English use of moot-negatives, you know like in the case of words like 'inflammable'?

Yassss..... that's totally where I was going. Cool

Epic. Most gusting. You have me plussed. At least the moot-negatives are evitable.

Yup, and in case I didn't make it obvious, you were completely right technically.

I think, along with the song being a parody of Brexit, I think the lyrics of the song are a parody of the famous song by Pink Floyd, although I could be wrong:

Quote:Brexit Could Be Delayed to Late-2019 as Government Not Ready

Quote:Britain’s exit from the European Union could be delayed until at least late 2019 because the government was too “chaotic” to start the two-year process early next year, the Sunday Times reported, citing sources it said were briefed by ministers.

By late 2019 enough baby boomers will have died so that there isn't even a majority of people wanting to leave the EU any more.

Next general election in the UK will be 7th May 2020. The government will be wanting to time the exit from the EU to maximise their chance of winning the next election. The problem is, no one will really know when this should be.

They need to trigger Article 50 before the next election. But they also can't wait too long after Brexit and before the general election to show that it was a mistake. But then maybe the more time after Brexit, the longer there is for the markets to stabilise.

I'm hoping to be watching from Germany by that time. Or in an independent Scotland.

"Now we need a plan for how this Brexit is going to work..."

I think the plan is a) put off Brexit for as long as possible, b) negotiate with the EU over the opt outs that Britain will get (ie Britain having free market access for goods services & people into the EU with no reciprococity) c) permanent Tory government.

What'll actually happen is that May will hold off until the xenophobes in the Tories threaten to join the Kippers, go to the EU hoping for a favourable deal, get told "Norway or nothing"* and May is left with the Hobson's choice of destruction of the economy or destruction of the Tory party. And if she chooses politics over statemanship, the union will sunder.

* Frankly the EU cannot do anything else, for if they give Britain a favourable deal with rights but not responsibilities, there'll soon be no EU. That's the elephant in the room most Brexiteers are blind to.

Thing is, calling the number of muslims entering Britain a flood is like calling a single drop of rain hitting your head a torrential downpour. Also most muslims in the UK are second, third or even more immigrants. They've as much right to be called natives as the von Saxe Coburg und Gothas.

GB quits writing checks, the EU kicks all the Brits out of continental Europe. Done.

Let's not overthink this people.
The EU was an integral part of every aspect of trade and legislation. We are going to have to re-work and re-negotiate everything all from a position of extreme weakness. There is no overthinking this, it is a massive mess which I fully expect to never be fixed.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.
