I'm saved! (Thanks in part to Thomas Paine)

RE: I'm saved! (Thanks in part to Thomas Paine)
Age of Reason is a good item to have on your book shelf. Glad to hear you escaped intact.

"Each nation has created a god, and the god has always resembled his creators. He hated and loved what they hated and loved, and he was invariably found on the side of those in power. Each god was intensely patriotic, and detested all nations but his own. All these gods demanded praise, flattery, and worship. Most of them were pleased with sacrifice, and the smell of innocent blood has ever been considered a divine perfume. All these gods have insisted upon having a vast number of priests, and the priests have always insisted upon being supported by the people, and the principal business of these priests has been to boast about their god, and to insist that he could easily vanquish all the other gods put together." Ingersoll

This post makes me want to be a believer for some reason...

Maybe I'll become a theist again one day...

Welcome.
God(s) and religions are man made and the bane of humanity.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Ozzy or Twain/take your pick

Hank??!

I was apologizing to the late Hank Williams, the composer who, presumably, is with the light.

I was thinking he was possibly talking about this Hank -

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
