Well... it depends. You probably wouldn't enjoy the kind I've had.

And... here in the UK doners are just the cheap crappy British takeout kind. Even the crappiest kebabs on a stick are classy by comparison Tongue

Here's a photo of a british kebab doner:

French fries shoved in the takeout oven, tomatos and lettuce and strips of lamb meat... in a box (oh and some garlic sauce that hopefully doesn't have the "chef's mayo" in it (one takeout place actually got closed down for that. (Yes. Now is time for you to throw up in your mouth a little bit))). Oh, and it's sitting in naan bread that is sitting in the box.

Not exactly classy.

Only kebabs I have had is British Takeaway Chav food, basically. Basically what my ex-roommate lived on.

Doesn't exactly look appetising does it?

And let's put it this way: my cheap 90 pence ($1.19) microwavable meals are delicious by comparison.

TL;DR: If it's a British takeaway doner you haven't had, Thump; you're not missing out.

ETA: Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat it. It's a step below my microwave food which is step below everything else, I'm dying for some real food and my mouth waters when I see delicious food photos from the likes of Kitticorn and Nym and MCB and whatnot.... but food is food I'll still eat it.

Well, what I'd heard about it was Turkish stands in Germany, sort of late-night party food.

But I ain't doing any chef's mayo ... nuh-uh, no way.

All of the above and do not forget about shrimp. Fresh tuna is excellent also.

Bingo.  4am, -10deg, been drinkin since noon, don't give a shit whether she doesn't like the smell of garlic????  That's on the shortlist of things I miss about Germany.

1. Kebab
2. Hungarian girls
3. Turkish girls
(now that I think about it, there's a pattern, the top 3 things I miss about everywhere I;ve went are always some combination of food and women - go figure)

I actually looked up franchising last night, after I posted.  Looks like they're not set up for the states.  Sadface.

@Chimp......you bastard, don;t even get me thinking about seafood. I grew up in equal parts saltwater estuary/swamp........and now I live in a landlocked state at-altitude. My kids unplugged my deep freezer last week and turned all of the stuff I brought back /w me from last trip home into chum slurry. I thought about filleting -them- for more than a minute. I had reds, grouper, sheephead, cobia, two blacktips packed with ice...then butter bowl after butter bowl of catfish, crappie, and crawdads. You know what I really miss, though, blue crab and stone crackers......!!!!

Growing up in Iran, where chelo kebab (lamb kebabs skewered and roasted, served over saffron rice) is the national dish, I didn't know there was any other kind of kebab for twenty years or so after that.

Yeah, I'm thrilled that we have a fair number of Iranian expats running restaurants around here, the food is terrific.

Hmm, now I want lamb kebab. Dodgy

Beef kebabs, skewered with red onion, zucchini, red bell pepper, and grape tomatoes:

No pics of lam kebabs, been too long since I've had 'em.
