Motha' Theresa

RE: Motha' Theresa
I'm sure Theresa's sainthood would have come as a great source of consolation to the poor bastards who went to her 'hospice' to die alone except for the ghouls who hovered over them, hoping to extract yet more deathbed conversions for the glory of the fucking church.

"Would have" -- since they endured needless suffering and early death. And to think of the real medical care so many of these people might have received with a fraction of the money Theresa's order took in to feed her insatiable ego and the church's relentless greed. Some fucking saint!

There's one thing to say in her favor and that is, she had a very bad PR advisor. She died exactly at the same time as Diana, as we would notice back then. So her demise hardly did make headlines.

It seems it is enough if all you do is keep the donations rolling in.

I read that they are actually trying to officially spin that as a virtue, how her struggle with maintaining faith is a sign of heroism that makes her even more deserving of sainthood. You couldn't make it up.
It was her admission of lost faith that was her only redeeming feature, the only sign of humanity in an otherwise sociopathic persona. It also puts a slightly different spin on her last years: that she wanted to stop and explore her new faithlessness but was prevented from doing so by a cynical and manipulative Vatican body who were so invested in the profitability of the myth of Mother Teresa that they would rather watch her suffer, intellectually, and her victims suffer, physically, to the point of their deaths than let an old lady come to terms with herself. Some might call that a strange form of justice given her behaviour for the overwhelming majority of her life, that she was manipulated in a similar way to her victims, but I think even Hitch said that contemplation of such treatment by the church made him feel pangs of sympathy.

I have a conspiracy theory I'd like to share.

At first, I gained a little respect for the fact that they elected Francis as Pope. He seemed like a genuine guy who wanted to improve the image of the church. And, while I still think that's true, I think the cardinals elected him solely for that purpose. Francis has been saying all sorts of liberal shit (for a Catholic that is) but what has the Church really done to reflect his words? The Church has no intention of changing, they just realized how shitty of a public image they have, so in order to remain relevant they conspired to elect a guy who says everything the younger generation wants to hear. Everyone will now think of Catholicism has more tolerant than it actually is, attracting a younger generation who is the least religious ever.

He's no more a genuine liberal than I'm a golem. If you look at his public speeches, what he says in developing countries where religion is still a far bigger influence he speaks with a far more fundamentalist voice than he does in the west. For example, his message during his visit to the Phillipines shortly after his coronation was out and out homophobia, basically saying that giving the LGBT community equal rights was the "worst evil" facing the modern world. The church has, since the accession of cardinal Wojtoyla, had as its main goal to present itself as the kind cuddly uncle in the west without renouncing the homophobia, anti-denocracy, misogyny and racism whic is at the heart of its operations. Bergoglio is the PR man they've been looking for the last thirty years.

Fat Albanian Midget is getting sanctified for teaching hurrying people to God instead of making them use luxury of medicine that was clearly created by the devil to distance people from Jesus and his sufferings. I guess the reward is mostly for making so much money for Vatican that bought not just so many new dresses for the pope and bishops but also lawsuits from those pesky altar boys that suddenly changed their minds about getting their poop holes stuffed by priests and pope himself.

You know Catholics brag how it is common that part of saint's body gets miraculously preserved forever demonstrating God's existence. What will be Teresa's body part? Her hump? Eye bags? What?! This anticipation is killing me.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I hear this, I've even seen it suggested quite a few times before

The churches are half-empty and especially lacking in millennials, given most who do still attend are elderly. That's scaring Christian religious leaders everywhere, and they're resorting to desperate measures to win back support. Even in a lot of the more "staunchly" Catholic-majority countries, the same thing.

Theresa can be made a saint all they like... the cat's out the bag and anyone who still respects her is an idiot.
