Favourite Semi-Obscure Music

RE: Favourite Semi-Obscure Music
I think obscure is kind of subjective. I'll say that I listen to a lot of community or college radio, like KEXP or WMNF . KEXP has many hours of a general "indie mix". Sometimes it's stuff that seems more commercial, and sometimes it seems way offbeat but still with semi-mainstream sensibilities. WMNF has a lot of blues, southern music, and even a great Jewish music show.

Here's the extended version of Its A Fine Day, by Opus III... the song the vocals for Halcyon were sampled from before being backmasked:

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

This is what I have on right now:

Falls more into the aforementioned "indie mix" kind of stuff.

But I like me some Stars of the Lid (drone):

...and Orbital (electronica?)

And Paul Hartnoll ala Orbital and people are like "Who?"

Ooh I love Orbital. This is one of my favorite songs ever--and the video goes to it so well.

This reminds me of Tangerine Dream up until the dance hall rhythms kick in.

Who else here remembers seeing this video before?

Tangarine Dream are nice.

Ulrich Schnauss who I posted music by earlier on the thread, is a member of Tangerine Dream now.

Here's another gorgeous song by Ulrich:

Oh, I've got tons. First up, the other Australian band, the Church -- rockin' just as much as the AccaDaccas, but totally different vibe. If you like this, go out and grab the album, Starfish, lots of great stuff on it:

Next, a band that inspired them -- Television. Criminally underrated, poetic lyrics, beautiful guitar interplay, a great mix of classicism and punk attitude. This is from their debut and has one of my favorite guitar solos ever at about 1:45, m'boy Richard Lloyd playing like he's about to fall off'n his skateboard:

On to something criminally underrated outside guitarist circles -- Friday Night in San Francisco, a collaboration of Al di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucia, recorded live in 1981. Three guitarists, no bullshit. This opening cut features Al and Paco (I think John's out grabbing a bong hit or something):

A daily fave for me. I've posted it elsewhere.
