What do they do with all the foreskins?  What did they do with them back in the day?  Is/was there some mohel somewhere sitting on a mound of foreskin, gloating over it like a dragon on a pile of gold?

Wink

They make wallets. when you rub them, they turn into a suitcase.

Or you rub them and coins fall out.

That is from a strictly Christian, or indeed Catholic point of view. I mean, give me a nice woman anytime who is actually clean and uncut, rather than a woman who maybe cut and unclean. As for hygiene, cut or uncut, there is absolutely no difference except that as "uncut", men, we take pride in (I do anyway) our bits and make sure they are as clean as a car in a showroom, sparkly clean. Whereas a cut peen, well, I am sure there are men who take a more relaxed approach and thus get into a false sense of security thinking they are clean when in reality.......

Ignorant statement. Circumcision has nothing to do with Catholicism.

I know, and I am sorry. Now please respond to the rest.

The rub, if you will, is that the circumcisee -isn't- "going for it".  People are going -at- his it, on day 1.  Before he;s even born, his loving parents will have deliberated amongst themselves, on what they plan to lop off and what they don't.  I don;t have a problem with someone cutting off their own dick either, that's none of my business, but not what we're talking about.

Well we don't have a problem deciding which fetuses go to the disposal and which ones get to grow on to human status. I think the situation is pretty parallel.

You can't tell me my sharpened pencil has been destroyed. I mean, sure, the little guy had to do without his blankey and is probably no where near as well adjusted as he'd have been with it. But it still works. We have fun. If little Whatevs Junior harbors any animosity he's hiding it pretty well.

On the other hand, at least some pro circumcision people deserve civility and respect.  Namely those who can disagree civilly over abortion when they feel something like the same regard for unborn babes-to-be as we do toward our wieners.  Looking at you Cath-y.  She doesn't like our sucking unborn kids from wombs and running them through the disposal but she doesn't froth at the mouth and scream incoherent shit at pro-choicers.  Time for uncut wiener advocates to suck it up and show they can comport themselves as well as she does.

Yeah, because parents are trapped into either making this decision or that when it comes to circumcision. What a dilemma.

Ok then, enlighten me as to why you think it is important since there is absolutely NO medical evidence to the contrary that states that having a "cut", penis is more beneficial than an uncut one?

1. Cut more hygienic than uncut, disproved.
2. Men are happier in their lives uncut, proved.
3. Children carry emotional and physical scars into adulthood if they have been cut, proved.
4. If circumcision needs to be done because of fear of getting a sexual disease, then this is disproved as the overal muslim and jewish populations are expanding and are more likely to die because of poverty and their surroundings.

If you want to believe that I hold the opinion that I do in regards to circumcision (that it's the parent's decision, and neither option is wrong) because I'm Catholic, go ahead I suppose. I'm not sure why a couple of you seem to want so badly to believe that that is the case. My entire, devoutly Catholic family is uncircumcised. And all the majorly Catholic countries in the world do not have a custom for circumcising at all. But if you want to continue to tell yourself for whatever reason (of which I'll never understand), that my opinion on this is out of religious motivation, you will continue to do so no matter what I say. So, knock yourself out.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

@RobE - in regards to the chapter and verse above.

- thus the notably divergent rite of passage.  Part of the contract to be included in "the people".  At least they knew what their reasons were, and the nature of those reasons, when they did it to their offspring.

We've got people today thinking that they do it to keep their kids from getting an std, which it doesn't..... or because uncut peen is dirty, which it isn't.  It;s like they can;t even believe the actual story of how all this dick cutting got started?  Why is that, does it just sound ludicrous?  Well..agreed..it -is- ludicrous.

@Cath
I don't think that you hold the opinion that you do -because- you're catholic, I think that catholicism provides cultural cover for an irrational and cruel position, just as it has always done, demonstrably, in this specific instance. Not just for you., for us. That's -how- it played into us to become an american tradition. We did it to stop people from being sinful, to combat the filth..which you today conceive of as material dirtiness despite there being none. The "reason" that we snip the tip, when we even have a reason, is that we're fetishists who see filth of every kind even when it isn't present. The narrative hasn't even changed. The idea of filth has, but only in a subtle way.

@Whatevs
IDK, I don't see a human being with rights in a fetus. I do see a human being with rights in a newborn. Nevertheless, I -do- see a problem with that, just not one that I think gives me cause to impose my will on the mother. No matter how much I dislike abortion, I won't sentence a woman to pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. Not sure what the analog is, between abortion and circumcision.

Okay I liked the wallet into suitcases things but don't ruin it for me where girls hoo-haws are concerned.  Those things are clean as is every inch of a woman.  Amirite?

RE: Another Circumcision thread
interestingly, circumcision in the west US, where I'm from, is less than half now, stats say only 33% in 2002. So maybe my resistance to it is locally cultural.
Plus that AAP does not recommend it unless there is medical need, which is very rare. I will trust the American Academy of Pediatrics over random individual docs. As a matter of fact, I cannot find a single medical organization in the entire world, including WHO, NIC, and British and Canadian Pediatrics, that recommend it as a routine procedure. It is always listed as a choice parents can make for religiosity or cultural reasons....not for routine medical ones. The majority of the world does not circumcise (about 70%) and the majority of circumcised men on the planet are Muslim (about 65%). Just some interesting facts I turned up while reading about it.

We discussed it when I was pregnant, in case we had a boy, but ours turned out a girl, so I didn't have to have that fight with my husband. Ironically, he agrees it is wrong to pierce a baby girls ears, we never subjected our daughter to that. Even braces only when medically necessary, not for looks. She can make appearance choices for herself when she is older.

I don't think we need to get nasty with each other over it, that is never helpful.
