Another Circumcision thread

I agree that circumcision is yucky and not something I would want to inflict on any child I was responsible for.  Even though the aftermath is not so awful, the process itself is not something I could even tolerate to watch.  No way would I choose to wait comfortably in the next room while it was performed.

How would you know whether the aftermath is awful, lol?  As an uncut man I'm telling you it would be awful not to have my bits intact.  You can either believe me, or not, lol. You can look at the studies and say "meh, still don't care". We don't disagree that the procedure is awful, and that's consequences..however used to them you may be as a man who had thois done decades and decades ago...are awful.

I get that your a dude, just like me.  This was done to you, you came out aight.  We all came out aight, though.  Distrubingly, ven addressing the issue in this way is to ignore it from the outset.  It's terrible, but meh, it happens...we're all a bunch of dudes that came out aight.  Who -cares- if we all came out alright. Victims of many crimes come out aight. Why is it even about that?

Nonetheless I'm on the side of individual freedom where male circumcision is concerned even though I'm against if for females.  That is because, from what I understand, it is much worse long term for girls.

................?  Rape me a little, rape me alot?  I don't even care to disagree with whether or not it's worse.  Why it would matter......murder is worse than assault, both are crimes.

Where and when the state should intercede is tricky and best tread lightly.  To pick a much less sensitive subject, if it were up to me, I would definitely seize every gun in the united states which wasn't issued to highly trained and monitored individuals.  In this case I think most of us would agree the harm to the individual is far out weighed by the benefits to the society as a whole.  

I think it's easier to make the case to seize guns than it is to make the case to allow male genital mutilation while dissallowing female genital mutilation.

Yes, the extreme forms of FGM (including removal of labia) are certainly more extreme than standard male circumcision. But then, is removal of just the clitoral glans ok? Yes or no?

Well it is enlightening to learn how differently people you respect can prioritize things than one does oneself. I can remember as a teen and probably through my twenties just naively thinking that people were all pretty much alike. That turns out not to be so. Viva la difference I guess.

I strongly doubt it.  So long as the law is on the side of no female genital mutilation, I guess it doesn't really matter.  But that does sound pretty awful in an ongoing way to me.

Indeed.  Mostly, I think that vast disparity between people surrounds some actual initiating divergence between them.  That you and I have distinctly disparate genitalia should be understandable as a point of divergence. No new news to anyone who's ever heard the phrase -men are from mars, women, venus.

I;ve gotta ask, if you can see the sort of procedure mentioned above as ongoingly awful.....how did it escape your notice that the other procedure in question is also ongoingly awful, possessing the same intent and effect?

It's all the same to me, not to the human being you might be killing in the process if you suddenly decide you don't want to bring it into existence after all.

Once again, I'm against abortion as justified by "inconvenience" or a mere change of mind. If you are pregnant through no fault of your own, however, and/or it poses a significant risk to your health, then the earlier you terminate it the better.

I don't know how we would distinguish between such cases, however, nor do I have any say in the matter(not much, anyway). So stop acting like I do and learn to have a conversation without going all fucking hysterical on me.
