I find it amazing that people who, imo, would be so very interested in christian theology as, say, christians themselves..don't realize that it would be difficult to understand what is contained within that theology without understanding the history, relationships, and transitions from polytheism to henotheism, and then ultimately monotheism. Not to mention the many syncretic trends between each respective contributor of the types to their own beliefs.
For some, "the bible says so"...but, more accurately "I say/was told the bible says so", is good enough. How those things ended up in the bible never seems to be a question worthy of consideration. It's difficult to imagine how -less- respect could be paid to the topic of theology.
