A quick word on "Overwhelmingly Negative Influences"
RE: A quick word on "Overwhelmingly Negative Influences"
Hehe, I'll be here till the lights turn out, and...you know, I'll probably shout into the darkness a little just to make sure no ones pranking me, but also because I'm just not right in the head.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Also, what happens when people start threatening to leave because they don't like member X, Y, or Z? Do we ban X, Y, and Z, even if they haven't broken any rules, just because some people don't like them? Sorry, but that doesn't sound fair.

This is a decision that you, as the owner, have to address. If enough people leave, will it be worth your money to keep the site alive? If folks stay despite the presence of twats like him, is that something you're happy financing?

Of course the members leave of their own accord. But whether you like it or not, you're in the biggest marketplace in the world -- the Internet. Every poster here has plenty of options, and how you spend your own money is your own business.

As I've said, I may be wrong about this but I suspect that the are far more people who support freedom of speech than there are who would want us to censor / ban people who post offensive / upsetting words.

I've been running this forum for almost a decade now. I've seen hundreds of people leave. I've seen thousands of people join. 4 people leave because they don't like a single member? Yeah, that doesn't affect me as much as you seem to think it does or even should.

I honestly think removing it would remove people's ability to think it's an option for whatever they think is negative. It's a wicked subjective rule.

I personally don't think it serves a purpose at all. It did when it was made. But now with the trolling rule updated and the new enforcement of said rule in my personal opinion there will never be a time when someone qualifies that isn't already breaking another rule.

Has no one noticed that this forum has been up for years and annoying folks have come and gone without more than a ripple? We even had the world's biggest open misogynist cause a similar stir with a long-standing staff member who left. Tibs' site is still running. Lady-hater and feminist are long gone.

Of course he/we will pay for the site if people continue to stay in spite of being annoyed occasionally by other members. He's built something awesome here.

You know it could be that he who must not be called out is finally burning out on his whole sorry act. Maybe he wants to be kicked out the front door rather than admit he couldn't convert us? Maybe death by cop makes a better story than I gave up and left.

And that's all good -- it's your ducats, not mine, on the line. How many of those thousands of gained members post, though?

And -- I'm not advocating for banning on the basis of offense, as I think I've already made clear. My position, once again, is that allowing one member to chase off others is in itself a negative influence, especially when you consider the quality of posting you've retained vs the quality of posting run off. Maybe I value quality over quantity, I dunno.

Don't get me wrong, Tibs; I love the site, and appreciate that you provide a spot where we can speak our minds. I'm offering my opinion here in the hopes of improving the place. If my suggestions aren't useful, so be it.

You own the place, and it's your call. You can listen or not, as you see fit; I offer my opinion, for what it's worth.

I do not wish to speak for Rob but it is my understanding that his dissatisfaction is over another unrelated issue, unless there is a nexus to this issue I am presently unaware of.
