I have saved up the cash to buy every car I've ever owned. It definitely takes some sacrifice and it's a terrible feeling spending so much money at once, but I'd rather not be tied down for years and years to come. Honestly, I don't buy into the whole concept of 'credit.' I've, realistically, never needed a credit card in my life... In the sense that I don't spend money that I don't currently have. Why would I?
This whole concept has become 'the American way.' If you tell people you bought your car with cash they act like you're a millionaire or something. No, ASSHOLE, manage your money correctly and don't spend money you don't have - a pretty simple concept. Tell people you don't want to own a home, that you'd rather rent an apartment. They'll be so quick to jump up and tell you how much extra money you're spending on renting.
Even PHONES are financed by most folks now days. People don't realize that you can buy an iPhone, yes for probably around $1000 including the case and everything, and go buy a Verizon pay as you go card for the month and pay like $60 a month for the same service people on contracts are paying $150+ for - just for the convenience of financing a phone.
The whole concept of credit is a complete rip off.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.
It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.
Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

Buying a car on credit has never occurred to me so far, but I imagine it could be justified if you need one right now for practical reasons and have a realistic plan how to pay for it over the course of not too many years. I would never pay it with a credit card though, but use a reputable manufacturer's financing plan with monthly installments - that way, it is very transparent how hard paying for it will hit you over the next, say, 24 months. Unless you lose your job, that's a pretty safe way to do it.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I don't care if one buys something or is supported by a breadwinner of a family, it still remains that pay is not meeting the cost of living and Reagan's deregulation has created a global race for cheap labor. That is not good economics period. In a very real evolutionary sense, we see what can happen in nature when one aspect of the ecosystem get's out of balance. Some inequity has to happen sure, but anyone who studies animals and ecosystems can tell you an invasive species or sudden loss or mass loss of resources to that ecosystem can not only hurt the minority life in that system, but also that dominate species.
Cars are too expensive, rent and housing are too expensive, maybe not for some, but most certainly for more and more of the middle class and working poor. Healthcare and education and even cell phones are outrageous. You cannot keep raising the price of everything and have wages stay the same or fall. Nick Hanoure a billionaire knows this.
Yes I started this thread poking fun of the marketing aspect, but appeal to emotion sells everything and it isn't always a good thing.
