Why Do You Like Math?

For me at least, I like the fact that it humbles me: there's so much mathematical knowledge and it's just awesome to know that there will always be problems that challenge people of all skill levels; even the best mathematicians encounter problems that knock them on their rear-ends and rock their world.

So, AF members and anyone else, why do you like math? Also, please feel free to share your lack of interest or dislike for math too.  Thanks.

I'm not an intellectual type person. But when I was in school math was my favorite subject because it didn't involve any reading/writing and it was just like this puzzle you had to solve.

I keep forgetting that I'm a math teacher now. Still haven't gotten quite used to the idea. Many of my students hate math, and I consider it my personal mission to convince them that it is great.

One thing I have to say though, what you encounter under the name of Mathematics in high school is not yet quite the real deal. The real thing is much better,  grander than I can grasp, goes deeper than I can imagine, and never seems to end. I could spend the rest of my life exploring algebra, differential geometry and algebraic topology, maybe even prove some new theorems, and wouldn't get bored. It's insane. It's like this infinite elegant architecture that we just find lying before us.

That was poetic lol. I like it! 

Yeah I was gonna say. . . he may not be teaching his best subject!
