I'm just throwing this out there... my atheism allows me to feel that if I was the one paralyzed from the neck down I wouldn't get enjoyment out of life and would be okay making the decision to end things. Also I would never want my husband to stick around if I were in a veggie state.

I think Woody Alan put it best. "Sex without love is a shallow meaningless act"...."but as shallow meaningless acts go...its one of the best"

I'm more of a loner and don't seek or care to receive either from anyone. But i'll gladly accept either if given to me (depending on how i feel, of course).
But if i had to choose between the two, i'd lean more towards affection.

I like affection but...how much meaningless sex are we talking about?

If you restrict yourself to meaningful sex, that's usually meaning less sex. But seriously, most of the sex is about as meaningful as, ok I'm bored... hm me too... allrighty then!

and most guys that I'm having meaningless (LOL) sex with, I'd be open to dating too
I recall 'servicing' a nominally straight guy before going to 12 Steppers, after I sobered up and he amscrayed, I realized had I been around him much more I might have been looking at developing some feelings for him. It's funny even now thinking about him, I saw a tender, compassionate side to him, and sometimes that is a toe in the door, I'd probably really enjoy another 'date' with him. If he'd open up and talk about his kid passing away . . . . .

Just give me the sex. I'm not interested in raising children, and have trouble trusting people nowadays, but I still enjoy sex.

Well I love to be in a relationship with really strong women, so that when other guys are making fun of me like "he, he you suck at 'Call of Duty'" I can tell them "Oh yeah! You'll see when my girlfriend comes home from the work she'll pound you to the ground!" and then they don't mess with me anymore.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I chose other because I honestly don't look at sex or love in these ways. I am not really into having serious relationships at this point in my life but I can still say that with any girl I've shared time with, we shared something special. Even if it was just in the moment, passing, fleeting intimacy it's still a moment I shared with her and I'll always remember it. I still consider her a part of my life and seeing an old fling would be like seeing an old friend to me. Whether or not we continue the relationship in any way we still shared that moment in time and that is something very real and special.
As far as love, love is warm and comforting and very real and it's still another experience that we, as humans, have with one another.
Both things are beautiful to me and I think should be appreciated for what they are. I don't like the term 'meaningless sex' because it almost implies that the people involved are meaningless and nothing could be farther from the truth.
I would choose sex with someone I'm truly in love with for the rest of my life, ideally.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.
It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.
Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll
