The Supreme Court routinely maintains that it is a free speech issue. They have enshrined the right to lie with constitutional protection.
Then why can't cigarette companies advertise?

Instead, we'll have weekly debates on the issues. Free speech is still free but more can't be purchased, so the rich and special interests don't get more speech than the rest of us.
Reviving the fairness doctrine would be a good place to start.

They can still advertise in newspapers and magazines. I am not aware of any attempt by the companies to oppose the TV/Radio ban in the courts. With the current makeup of the court ( 4 pro-business nazis ) I suspect that if they did so they would win.

Yet another example of how we'll be living with Bush's mess for the next 30 years or so.

We need to get rid of the filibuster, that would be an excellent start.

Ask me again after the next election. You may see a number of first-class shitheads elected to the senate this year.

It doesn't matter. The Dems are way too spineless to ever filibuster a Republican majority. Heck, they had the majority from 06-08 and still rubber stamped everything Bush wanted.
