Any opinions on which would be the best download option between BitTorrent vs Direct?

I've looked at a few Direct options but most of the time my malware scanner lites up like a xmas tree.  There was something called Seedr that I was studying but then I got distracted and never got back to it.

I would stick with BT, direct seems to come from a single IP, and is much more susceptible to anti-piracy issues.

Torrent with VPN is good. Works for me.

Why do I recall seeing warnings that torrent sites don't work with VPN?

I'm trying to get a more updated version of GIMP. I have the 2.8.14 which has recently started freezing on Fonts when I try to open it. I was going for the 2.8.18 version. I tried downloading with the Bit Torrent option but I'm not having much luck that way.

If it's GIMP, just get it directly. I use torrent only when direct is not an option

^^^ This ^^^

For downloaded software your best, most secure thing to do is go directly to the canonical download source, not a download site or bittorrent.

They don't work well with a VPN, but more often the VPN provider doesn't like getting nastygrams from the MAFIAA (Media and Film Industry Association of America) so they'll cough up your info on a dime. Smile

A VPN provider also has an incentive to keep BitTorrent off its networks - BitTorrent is an extremely bandwidth hungry and thrashing protocol that doesn't play well with others.

Looks like I was successful in downloading the newest version of GIMP 2.9.4 into my apps, but I can't get it to open. Any ideas?
